Ice - Help Required

I currently have JL Audio Speakers being run off the standard headunit but have a JVC DVD headunit to fit.

I am planning on running a sub of an amp in the boot - how can i get the Speakers linked up to the amp?? Do they need to be run off an amp or will they be fine off the headunit?? ICE means nothing to me and i don't want to sound to dense but need all the help i get!!!

Lastly i've got a budget of £400 for the sub and amp does anyone have any opinions / recommendations?? Or anyone who can fit the gear for the cost of the tools, materials and a few beers after a project session.

Many thanks in advance

JJ

I would have helped fitted the sounds but you are quite far away down in devon!

You can run you're Speakers off the headunit but depending on the unit i reckon top spec alpine or pioneer headunits would be best suited to the JL audio Speakers you have. To run an amplifier to them you will need to wire the Speakers to the amplifier and to save wiring possibly have one amplifier bridged to the other. So one amplifier for the subwoofer which could be a monoblock amplifier and possibly a 4 channel amp for your speakers.

I would speak to a car audio specialist first however for the setup you want. Sounds is an expensive task if you want it right. £400 is a fair budget for the equipment but it then depends what you are after, you need to think about, wiring, dynamat if you dont want your boot rattling, installation costs.

Have a word with man-bing as he knows his sounds well, but why not pop over to talkaudio forums someone will be able to recommend something.

I reckon JL audio is the stuff to use but it comes at a price.

Within your budget, are you after good sound quality or hard thumping bass? also what size subwoofer are you looking for....smaller subwoofers will give you tighter bass, however a large subwoofer will give you louder but less tight bass.

Its always best to listen to sound systems first before deciding.

Running the Speakers off the amp would be beneficial n the sound quality would be a lot better..... you'd have to run the amp to the Battery and the head unit and then the Speakers straight to the amp. If you down in the area id do it for you but i doubt u will be loll.. for £400 there's a nice package on caraudiosecurity a 12" diamond with a rainbow amp, a decent little package for the price.

Good luck mate.. Need anyfin lemme kno.

How did i miss this topic  ok time to catch up

Ok, to start with, you say you got a DVD H/U, is it a single or double DIN size unit?

What outputs/details can you tell us about it, such as pre-outs, internal watts, etc.

You got a set of JL Speakers, but are they components, 2 way or 3 ways Speakers, also size and watts.

Ok, moving on, you want a sub in the boot, how big are you looking at size wise, 10"-12" subs are about the normal size, but are you looking for a sigle sub or a double sub?

Give me the answer to these few questions, and will see where we can go from there

no it won't work at all. you will need to change the aerial. Your FM will work but it won't be as good as the original headunit.

I have 12" Rainbow Hammer sub and it was some kind of test winner and said to be even better than most twice as expensive subs. It was quite cheap so i can recommend it. :)

I would also recommend to get all doors soundproofed. Even the stock Speakers sound much better.

My trunk atm. I wanted to keep it simple.
