Ive never been on a real cruise, couldnt be bothered sittin around for hours in a car park. A few guys who ive recently met have asked me to come to a cruise to liven things up (doughnuts etc) but im not sure, ive got a clean licence and want to keep it that way. Can you get done for dangerous driving in a car park??????? is it illegal to spin your wheels, make noise etc??????

Flame on!

Yeas thay can do you for dangerous driving even if you are in a car park.

it is illegal to spin your wheels, make noise. but i expect they will look over your car with a fine tooth comb to find something wrong with it.

normaly tyres are the first thing they check as you will have taken a load of tread off by spinning them.

I think i am correct in saying that its 3 points and the possibility of £1000 for each bald tyre!

Oh and you have the same advatire (sp) as me

Flame off!

Yep, you drive like a muppet in a car park, expect to police to turn up and hit you for everything they can...

And you'd deserve it, there is a time and place for that sort of behaviour, and it certainly isnt a supermarket car park.. at any time!!!

See this is the diffrence between a cruise and meet.

Meets like the one we had in Reading last week are very calm and collected events where we all act our age and enjoy the same hobby.

Cruises are generally held by spods with Saxo VTR's who love pratting about until they get told off and moved on.

Go to meets if you want to stay clean, if you go to cruises where there are idiots doing donuts etc your be ONE OF THEM . lol

Its all about the kinda people at the cruise your going to.

And most importantly what YOU end up doing.

i'd echo excatly what Fidgets and Leeky say. Its one of those things were just being there you will all be tarred with the same brush, so if something bad happens which it sometimes does (i think its fine catctus that has a story about this and a little lad) then you could be involved.

Personally I'd stay clear! (go too meets and oggle instead  )

But hey, i havent ever been to a full blown cruise and I may be wrong, and everyone has there own opinion.

I find some of the answers interesting. I used to be part of a car club that organised auto-tests, usually held in supermarket car parks or some friendly office car park. You got to spin your wheels, do hand brake turns, rev your engines to ridiculous levels etc... to do some of the manoeuvers, but we were never hassled by anyone.

Must say though that the events were RAC homologated, were held in daytime, and the owners had given us permission to use their land.

It seems that officialising the event is worth it :P

I have been to cruises (to park up only!!), legal car shows, meets.

Out of all the things i wont go back to it is the cruises. You ALWAYS get some jumped up little :censor: who has only just got his/her licence and needs to "prove" something to the other Cruizers... notice the "townie" spelling of crusiers :D

It is pretty damn boring.... you get the obligitory donuts - that no one can really pull of properly, you get dangerous racing around where people are standing.

I used to love going to cruises to begin with.. Was great to meet up and chat about similar interests. The cruise scene is highly over-rated and dangerous. I fear for my car and my safety everytime.

Car Shows and Club Meets are the best, you actually get to stop, share and compare mods etc and not have to worry about police having to break it up because of a small minority.

Because i enjoy car moddin' i have been tarred as a girl-racer.... i prefer the term girl-modder. There is a difference. Racer means !Removed! about in cars, modder means appreciation of cars. Why risk so much damage on something you spend x amount on per year?

At the end of the day it is up to you, but if you do go, please re-frain from the donuts and burn outs, believe me it is not worth it and the majority of people who go to crusies to see nice done up cars dont think it is big or clever.

Think of your licence. What is it worth to you... A few mishaps at a cruise where you are likely to be done, or would you like it to remain clean and clear.

For the sake of one cruise, you could lose out on quite a bit... money wise as well, increased insurance premiums, fines and not forgetting the cost of replacement tyres that would not have need replacing.

Well that is my opinion... this is no way a dig at anyone, just puttin my experiance across.

I have been to cruises and I dont like them... Wait till the summer and the legal car shows... you can enter your car into things like that and not have to worry about getting points.

Rant and essay over

Well, Ive been to both cruises and meets, enjoy both the same - the legalites on wheels spinning, doughnuts etc is basically illegal on public roads or public places, which sometimes includes superstore car parks as theyr owned by the local council, and therefore making it a public place. - not 100% on everything, oh hell, its only illegal if you get caught lol (that doesnt mean you can do it tho, ok? ;) )

I enjoy driving me car in a "normal" and sensible way, just as much as enjoy ragging it down a country road - if i wasnt going to do that then i would of got a smaller cc car, however, lol............

if im in with a cruise, il do the limit and keep me distance, let the idiots fly past me at god knows what speed, and let them show me where plod is (usually theyr getting fined or searched when i go past...lol)

but then, were motorists anyway, so cops are out to get their revenue (fines/speedin tickets), if they get a hot hatch or performance car then they get to really go over it and see how much they can make..... i just dont think its about safety or legalities anymore... just the bling bling.

well, my 2 pennies

safe driving

I must admit that when it comes to country lanes, my speed and smile increases occasionally... (when i am not trying to keep my fuel comsumption at reasonable levels :D) , but I keep to limits in towns.

Where there are people about you need to consider that what you are in can easily kill someone if the worst was to happen.

Cruise scenes and club meets i think has a lot to do with age.... I think i am too old now for the Cruise scene, i much prefer a meet where we chat cars, find a nice pub for a relaxed bite to eat... in the warm!!

Cant be having the standing around in cold car parks anymore :D

Again, I can only really echo what others have already said.

I used to attend an 'official' VW meet in Guildford. The authorities were informed and although we used to cause a few nightmares for shoppers wishing to vacate Ladymead car park late on a Wednesday evening due to the sheer numbers that would turn up, the meets themselves would be very relaxed affairs whereby you'd park up, have a walk round admiring all the other cars and have a good old chin wag with anybody you felt like talking to - Being enthusiasts, everybody was happy to talk to everybody else about not only their cars but anything else as well. It's meets where you really start to meet people and make useful links.

In my experience, so-called cruises usually end up getting broken up by the rozzers bedcause they ARE dangerous. Not only that but you rarely get to see much in the way of exciting machinery. I once had a rather scary experience at a cruise (anybody who's been to the Guildford cruise will know the area I'm talking about: We were in my mates Fiesta (don't laugh), about to leave because we were bored. On the industrial estate where it used to take place there is a road just wide enough for one car... We were driving up this road towards the exit when all of a sudden we saw a blaze of headlights coming towards us - Two cars (probably Saxos or something daft) were racing down in the opposite direction. Fortunately we managed to dive off o one side fairly quickly, but it was dodgy all the same.

I remember when a "cruise" was what you guys are calling a meet now... the word "cruise" implies a leasurely affair.. possibly roll about showing off your car, (came from the old yank style rodders and lowriders)..

now a "cruise" is a social taboo... 'lil ejits in small underpowered 4 banger hatchbacks (no-gos, paxos, you know) driving like plonkers and being a pain in the posterier..

-and dangerous with it

I really need to turn up to a reading meet soon. My supra is still poorly with turbos (yes, still) and I've just decided to lock her away for winter hibernation (she doesn't do wet, or sitting in the rain, only a heated garage from now on :) ) and I'd get ridiculed for turning up in a mazda (yeah ok it SAYS ford on it) probe.

I tend to stay away for most meets these days as you always get the 'lil kiddies spoiling it.. 99.999999% of the people on here seem relly sound about the whole meeting thing so if you guys rate it I'll take your word for it

erm, im a cop and i nor ANY people i work with go over cars with a fine comb...and I certainly dont think of revenue when i dish out a ticket and i swear down i dont know any other bobby that does!! Maybe the bigwigs but not the people you deal with.

Anyway, i still go on meets with my mates on our bikes / cars and its always a good laugh, but the doomers you see doing the circuit stuff at night always make me laugh! you're right about them being Saxo boys - and its the same ones night after night after night after night.....gotta laugh.

Cheers...

i would suggest a meet, as opposed to a cruise as u should probably be surrounded by a better, more intelligent, and sensible class of driver.

ONLY PROBLEM THOUGH IS THAT GIRLS DONT GET THEIR PUPPIES OUT AT MEETS!!

Yea but thank god meets dont have guys showing thier ubiks..I mean..wtf is all that about? Why do it unless you clearly want something inserted into it? Or maybe its a retarded visual method of communicating what 'cruizers' are all about.. a bunch of ubiks.

I went to the 'strathy' cruise once last summer.Strathclyde cruise is a very very big event and there was an organised Cosworth Festival earlier hence why were stayed on . It a huge carnival car park resort type place. The place was full of the usualy tin cans on wheels but there was quite a few serious cars there. But the one thing I noticed (and this included the guys with the Skylines and Subarus etc)..non of them had a clue about tuning at all. And they talked such crud about thier cars figures it was unbeleivable.

And there was a lot of hateful looks from the social underclass and you could tell they were up to no good. Very bad attitudes

To sum it up:

Cruise = clueless ricers with a nasty attitude

Meet = hard workin friendly enthusiasts

Where would you choose to go?
