Ooh. Good question! I was looking at the same eBay listing yesterday. Sorry, I don't have any answers, but I was going to lob in some more questions about them if you don't mind...

I'm also thinking that with my car being black, mouldings may not even need painting. (didn't like the idea of unpainted ones on our previous "Carbon Quartz" and painting works out a bit steep). Do they they just stick on with some adhesive? How about if we ever wanted to remove them... would that be impossible? (paint faded/somthing else I didn't think of)

If anyone has any answers ... that'd be nice. :)

Done a thread on this a while back -

http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...otection+strips

And here's a more recent photo -

Do they work ? I dont know if I've ever been door dinged because the strips are where the ding would have been

so I guess the answer is yes  Fitting is easy, but do it on a warm day and take your time. I got mine

from Kingo.

EDIT, and here is the origional thread -

Thanks for the reply. I'll go and have a look at the threads.

Maybe Kingo will pop in too and give us a quote...

Btw, cool looking ride, Dave. Is that East Neuk of Fife, by the way? Looks a bit like Elie/Earlsferry beach :)

Ey Up!!! :D

Lets put it this way... -_-

When I was looking at getting me Rav I spoke to the salesman and asked if I were to go for it if they could remove the "protection pack" as they tend to call it... He kinda looked at me strange  and stated that these were put in place to cover areas prone to door dents....

SO I thought ok leave it then.

Just as well I did as one morning I looked out me bedroom window and saw the neighbour getting into his car - ONLY to see him open his door wide and bouncing it of my RAV  ... Man was I pi##ed off!

However I didnt shout out at him as the door did bounce right back off the side moulding and cracked him right on the shin  and he did look like it hurt him...

So I would recommend the protection pack and to be honest it has grown on me and I would kinda think me RAV would be -well - naked :blushing: without it.

Hope that helps ya...

regards

Rob

One of my favourite occasional sunday afternoon runs, it is Elie as you say. After that , a short run up the

coast to Anstruther and the UK's best chippie for a fish supper

Yup. I thought I'd recognised it. :) I have some fond memories of Elie.

Btw, how come you didn't get the tiny bits of plastic for "bumper protection". I am now guessing that it doesn't come in a kit and MrT wanted another 50 squids for those :(

For what its worth, I think your roof rails make the car look really nice (and I am jealous. :) not sure if I am jealous enough to fork out 250 quid, though). I would have voted for "paint them side protectors" without the black roof rails, but this way it looks really good.

Oh, for the interest of this thread... I read the original post Dave kindly pointed me to...and the price quoted from Kingo was just under £62, If Kingo doesn't pop in soon.

I never got the little bits when I ordered, so I guess they are extra :( Re the black bits, I think its good to contrast the silver with some black bits otherwise it gets a bit

incipid (sp?).

Luckily I had the protection pack already fitted to mine, so saved me a few squids. It's personal preference I guess, but I think the contrast between the protectors and the car colour looks good. My Hyundai had painted mouldings and after a few supermarket trolleys and white transit doors have knocked them, they looked rough.

I think a painted protector gives as much of a problem as an unprotected door. Once they have a few chips on them you're going to want to get them repainted, so really defeats the object?

Also had them put on the wifes Yaris. She parks in a public car park every day and 18 months on, only marks are on the wheel arches (which aren't protected) so definitely work.

Anyone know if wheel arch protection is available?

Well there was quite a discussion a while ago about painted or unpainted, and without repeating myself I cant understand why you would put side protectors on to protect the paint, then paint them, you will then need another set to protect the painted side protectors + very soon you could have a 7ft wide Rav..Anyway thats not my point there are a pair of genuine frnt corner protectors on flea bay HERE IS THE LINK also a rear bumper protector from the states on the same page if its of any use  Check they are right for your model

This is what the door moulding looks like on my 4.3:

med_gallery_70699_762_52902.jpg

This is the Canadian style moulding which is bit narrower than the US spec moulding. It looks to me that the silver colour is through and through, not just painted on. I know you can order from several Toyota dealers here in the States, and some of them sell on eBay. They come in various colours and with installation instructions, but it might be a problem matching some colours. They go for $115-160 (78-110 quid) plus shipping.

Those thin ones look really cool, Junebug, but I think they wouldn't do much for the UK supermarket car parks. Canada is a big country, they can afford 10-foot wide parking bays :) Joking, of course, but honestly parking in local Tescos... I sometimes think of that Simpsons episode when Bart re-draws all the parking bay lines in the school car park... :)

Anyways... Been to the local dealer on an unrelated matter and inquired... Side mouldings are in the neighbourhood of Kingo’s last year’s prices (I was quoted ~ £65). And you won’t believe it, the tiny bits for bumpers are... wait for it... waaaait.. £73!!!!

I’m not even going to go into the labour charges for fitting them (let’s just say my exact thoughts were: “HOW MUCH?!?!?!”)

It may also have been mentioned by someone there that one should maybe not bother with the tiny corner ones. Apparently the contact surface area is rather small and they peel off very easily.

I know exactly what you mean. Around here the average idiot driver considers the lines to be a mere suggestion. I usually drop the wife off at the front door and then drive to the far end of the lot and park in a vacant area. And more often than not, when I go back to the car some idiot or idiots have parked right next to it.

Aye and they're usually the roughest looking bangers on planet earth!!!

I thought it was just me. I'm sure if I parked in the Sahara Desert there would be a van on one side and a Land Rover on the other (broken down) when I got back.

Or you could just buy a 4.2 that already has them fitted

Makes you wonder why Toyota bothered redesigning the car only to sell the kits to turn it back into a 4.2.

:D

OK so I can't afford a 4.3 :(
