What Have I Got?

OK guys so im a newbie here and im here because i have just inherrited a Toyota celica.

I think its Gen 6 well thats what it looks like from the pictures ive seen on the net, however it aint got the log book or any previous docs at all! I know its genuine milage 108k kilometers cuz ive known the woman that had it years and its hardly ever been used. However her son decided it would be funny to loose the book with everything in it about the car.

My question is how on gods green earth do i find out the model and engine model ete etc for modification/insurance/new log book/repair purposes.

I have the car on my drive now and i need to send off for the new log book as a first point of call.

I know its a 2litre, i know its a automatic and im pretty sure its an import as there is plenty of japanese writin in the car. Its got ETCS which im assumin is electronic traction control system and an overdrive button on the gear lever!

I dont know if these will help you help me out but im pretty desperate! if anyone can help me identify what i have i would really appreciate it. Its an L Reg but it has the quad round head lights on the front.

Cheers Guys

Brett

Get the previous owner to phone the DVLA, give them the reg. number to order a replacement log book. (Costs about 12 quid I think) and wait for it to arrive.

Then you'll need to fill in the change of owner section and send it back. You can use the green tear off section of the log book to buy road tax while you're waiting for it to return in your name.

The insurance company will only need the reg. number to give you a quote/insurance

Not possible my friend! the guy only gave it me on the wim that he cant be ubikd sort it all out himself! If i start mitherin he is just gonna say if i wanted do this i would of kept it. So thats not an option... I know that the insurance will insure it with just a reg but the sites say please enter manually when i put the reg in or they come up with a 1.8 and its not its defo 2 litre... Infact i think it says it on the engine itself!

Any other ideas anyone?

you can go to your local post office or phone dvla, tell then u have brought the car and would liek to have a log book sent out, they charge you about £20, but before they send you the log book they write a letter to the previous owner giving him 6weeks to contact them but he only has to contact them if he knows nothing about the sale/change of ownership, after the 6 weeks if they have no reply from him then send you the log book,

the law is even tho the car is in his name etc, because he gave you the keys at his own free will the car is legaly yours, i know this because i got scammed out of some cash from a so called mate, (buts thats another story)

good luck :D

Regarding the engine type, pop the bonnet and tell us what it says on the engine.

It will be something along the lines of,

7A-FE

3S-GE

3S-GTE etc etc.

Basically the 7A engines are 1.8 and the 3S are 2.0

Regarding the Generation, if it's the twin headlamp sort then it may be a Gen 6. But have a look here to see what yours looks like, all the various generations are listed down the side. http://www.celicas.co.uk/Celicas-Gen-6.html

check the vin plate for frame number - 3S-FE is E-ST202-BLPGK which is a ss1 .

or 3S-GE is E-ST202-BLPVF which is the ss2 - uk equivelent to the gt

or 3S-FE E-ST203-BLPGK if it has 4 wheel steering.

ST202 is 2 wheel steer which according to what you're written is what you have.

ST203 is the 4 wheel steer type.

So you've got yourself an SS1 B)
