Hello

A recent MOT test on Avensis 1.8GS(1999) hatchback detected slight free play at steering wheel, code [2.2.A.1b].

Doesn't seem to be getting much response to this one. Probably because there are too many possibilities.

It could be anywhere between the steering wheel and the road wheels and needs to be checked from one end to the other in order to find it. Might be slight play in a column U/J, a pinchbolt loose, steering wheel nut loose, wear in the steering rack itself or in the track rod (knuckle joints or TRE's).

Or it might even be just an over zealous MOT tester.

I would just check the column U/J ('s) and any pinchbolts on the column to be on the safe side, it's obviously not enough to fail the MOT so just monitor it.

Now I've kicked it off, someone else may know if there is anything that is common and come in on it.
