Hi

heater on 4.2. set temp, and it predominantly warms the floor first. If I select the fan speed or blow on the screen etc then the auto is turned of, however the fan speed will change with the temp changing. whats the difference?

Thanks

Hi

And this is the smartest thing to do, isn't it? From Physics classes we all know that warm air is lighter than the cold one and goes up, right? So what will happen if the heater starts blowing hot air from the top - your brains would boil, while your feet will freeze :P The temperature you set is the temp for the whole zone where you set it, not just for your face or your feet, so when in Auto, the AC "decides" where to blow the warm air in order to achieve this temperature ;)

"auto" only applies to the distribution of air. In other words depending on the conditions it might split the air 50/50 to the screen and floor. As the temp inside the car rises it may then send more air to the floor. However, the fan speed will be changed as the temperature rises so right from cold it will be low volume (to avoid chilling you) then it will get faster to achieve the set temp' then it will slow down and maintain the set temp. If you send it to the screen it then has to try to achieve the set temp by picking the speed up as it is less efficient but it will eventually slow down. If you alter the fan speed you lock the volume and it will not change.

The best is to leave it on auto and just set the temp where you like it (usually around 20 deg C). It will do the rest far quicker than you can by trying to adjust it. If it seems slow even when it is cold that is intentional as stated to stop the interior being cooled by the rush of cold air. The only time to change it would be to give the screen a quick blast if it is misted up but if you leave the aircon on it will rarely need it. Make sure the cabin filter is clean for best results.

Better than any manual

Oooh, this is quite pertinent for me as well; I'm just working through things like this - Ta! :)

Do 'we' change the cabin filter or should 'they'? If indeed it is a 'we' job, does the handbook thingy in the glove box tell you how to? I'm just wondering, as on the odd occasion my heating/aircon smells a bit like a cross between the chlorine in a swimming pool and the urine in a public loo! :eek:

As I say, it's not all the time, seems to be more when the air pumping out is a little humid...

Bad girl!

Openly admitting that you didn't read the maintenace tips pinned at the top of the page;

Must do better!!!

Oh and BTW, you can get a kit from a motor spares shop to refresh your heater. It is a good place for rearing bacteria and it can smell a little public toilet ish. Add the contents of the kit (or the prescribed anount) through the opening where the cabin filter goes.

I am more than happy with the heating and everything else (apart from the slightly notchy gearchange that I thought was me until I did a search :rolleyes: ) In fact, I had to re-direct it 2 miles into my journey to work the other morning 'cos it was burning my wrists! :) The bikini, now, that's another thing - I might just frighten surprise you all yet, I mean, I still have to post my photos... :P
