Upgrading The Battery

Hi guys,

I'm interested in upgrading my prius eventually to a plug in and wondering whether there was a wise way to this? Is Amberjac rated as reliable or do they have a bad rep in the Prius community? Alternatively, do we think that Toyota will offer this service eventually?

Also, will it make a big difference to fuel economy or not really?

I presume this upgrade would invalidate the warrenty so the plan was to wait until the 8 years is nearly up.

The current cost of upgrading the batteries is about £9000. The car then gives the equivalent of about 130mpg, but you simply would never recover your costs, and I can't see it would add any significant value to your eight year old car. By then, a mk4 Prius will have already have been around for two or three years, you'd surely be far better off putting that sort of money into a used one IMO.
