Rusty Wheel Bolts

I bought my Yaris SR brand new back in August and I'd noticed the wheel bolts had started to go rusty. I took my car to my local dealer and they took photos of all 4 wheel and said they will claim for a full set of bolts. I was the second person that day to have gone in with exact problem. Today, the dealer called me and said Toyota has rejected the claim as it is not under warranty and will cost me about £60 for a whole new set. I just think this is outrageous as they're part of the car so should be under warranty. Anyone else got same problem or any ideas on how I could fight my case and get them replaced for free? Much help and advice needed.

Hi there. Don't think you will have much joy from Toyota unfortunately. If they have said it's not covered then they (like most dealers) will be adament and no amount of phone calls or pestering will help.

Maybe the best they could do will be a 50/50 situation where you pay half and so do they. Volkswagen did this when a freind of mine bought a new beetle, similar thing to what you are experiencing and the dealers did pay half.

The only other thing you could do is go out and buy some stainless after market bolts?

Incidentally my wheel bolts on my 2000 SR go rusty in winter (good old british salty roads!!) then every summertime i remove them, rub them down, treat them with curust and paint them silver using some quality ally paint. But then again my car is 9yrs old this year so i can't moan.

Good luck with the claim ;)
