Hi there, bought an Apexi a while back and it finally came! But after fitting it today and starting the engine I could feel something wasn't right..the rev's kept going up and down when stood still..and after a few minutes of driving the malfunction warning light came on and won't go away.

The performance of the car has reduced quite a bit..it's become slower and definately less smoother than before. After hearing good things about the Apexi I wasn't expecting this, so I'm guessing I've installed it incorrectly or damaged something?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

get a picture up of what you have put on. In the mean time take it off and replace your standard air box see if the light goes. Also which apexi filter is it? is it a universal filter because the corollas need a specific one for the sensor near the airbox (maf)

Get a photo up and it will be easier to tell.

Hi mate, yeh it's the one for the 1.6 bought if off Nengun so I'm pretty sure it's the right one. Tried disconnecting the Battery to see if it would disappear..worked at first but came back on soon after.

From looking at pics that Norfolk posted in the past it looks pretty much the same. But I'll take some pics in the morning and try putting the original air box back on see what happens.

Cheers

If the warning light is on and the revs are fluctuating it sounds like the MAF sensor could have been damaged, put it all back to stock or hook it up to a code reader and see what message you get.

Are any of the MAF wires damaged?

After looking more closely though, I found two cables connected to the MAF damaged:

and also in the middle here:

Must have damaged them accidently when fitting the Apexi, I'm guessing this is the problem?

I also noticed that fuel is going down faster than before..and accelerating from stand still seems like a struggle :(

Have the wires actually come out of the MAF? Or are have they just got nic's in them? Have a look at the Definitive Part Number thread (the last post by me) and you will see an easy fix if you needs to replace the plug and wires.

Did you have to stretch the plug to reach the sensor?

Well I've just put the standard air box back on and everything's back to normal..so it's either the Apexi..or most likely I fitted it wrong :P

Didn't stretch any wires or anything..Can't see what it could be but I'll have another go at fitting it and I'll let you know what happens.

Just fitted it again guys, seems better than yesterday for some reason. Acceleration has improved and the warning light hasn't flashed yet..One thing that's still worrying me is that the revs still fluctuate when I start the engine.

It's not supposed to happen is it?
