Auto Gearbox Failure

Hi, has anybody had a similar problem? After finishing my 12hr shift, my Avensis started but would not engage into gear. The auto gearbox feels loose. There are no puddles on my drive or at work where it is now parked, so i don't think it's related to loss of fluid. I am hoping it is just cable related. Please advise if you have had a similar problem or you know somebody else who has. I will look at it later in the light of day and hopefully it will be an easy fix! Iain.

I've just checked out the car and it appears to be the 'gear selecter cable'. Hopefully the cheapest part that could have gone! Iain

I've just done a quick search and they are about £20, cheaper than a gearbox!
