Cap Door Can't Be Closed

Hi

If it's the early model Avensis then the fuel cap cover is mechanical. On the later model with the button under the armrest it is electric with a strap inside the boot to pull which will open it mechanically.

There have been some cases of the locking pin snapping off.

Thanks for your reply, i found some info on regards to that which i will paste down here .....

(The actuator (motor) could have stopped working or the plastic plunger that holds the fuel flap closed may also have broken.

Remove the N/S/R inner trim from the boot and you will be able to see the actuator bolted (1x10mm bolt) to the inner wing area.

Simply unbolt it and check the plunger, if this is fine then give the actuator a 12v feed (if it moves in/out it is fine - if not then a new one is needed)

If the plunger and actuator are fine they either may have jammed or there is no feed to the actuator (fuse/wiring etc))

The actuator will (I presume) open the fuel flap so unless it has stayed actuated or stuck, the door should close. If it is just springing back open when you close it, I would guess that the end has broken off the locking pin as was suggested above by revband.
