Corolla T-spirit 2005 - Mp3/cd/aux

I have recently started driving my Mum's Corolla and I really hate just being able to play 1 CD or connect my MP3 player using a FM transmitter. What can I have fitted to the existing system, without replacing any of it to allow me to have a 3.5mm jack input to play my music? I rather not spend too much, and I don't know how to do it myself either :(

Where would you buy it from in the UK? How much does it roughly cost? Where do all the parts fit in the car? :)

My Corolla is a 2005 model, so I am assuming it will have Type 1?

You'd think that... but mine's a 2004

Then best to just stick with what you got then, part of finding a solution is to take it apart.

If the H/U looks like this:

Then the back will look like this:

my question is, where do you MOUNT the Xcarlink, and like where does the cable run to ensure it mounts and fits snugly? or does it just dangle down from yr HU in an untidy manner?

That is exactly what the H/U looks like... so I guess its Type 2 then! Well, the Seek Track buttons are ^ and v (not sideways like in your photo), but does that make much of a difference?

Although I don't feel comfortable taking it apart, I have a mate who lives in Leicester (I'm in London) who will do it for me. So I was hoping to buy the XCarLink device, drive up to see him and get it fitted at the same time. Obviously, if I get the wrong fitting that it would screw up the plans, which is why I was a bit hesitant.

I have seen photos of it being fitted in the top of the glove box and the cabling goes from the back.

For the Line In part, I was wondering if I could put an extension cable through the back and coming out of the ash tray part? We don't use the ash tray, so it would be handy having a 3.5mm jack plug hidden in there for use with my iPod Shuffe and Nokia N95 :)
