Blowing Exhaust

Well I suppose I should have expected a problem with my exhaust after reading all the Compressor exhaust issues on here!

Though actually my mechanic said it is quite a common problem, the pipe is coming away from the silencer at the join, happens a lot with modern cars allegedly. Still at least it's not the cat like some people on here.

I've left him to try and find a replacement silencer. Hopefully it won't be too expensive!

i think toyota really let themselves down with the compressor...the whole 'reliability' attribute went right out the window with this model. seems like there ppl have one problem or another with the compressor.

i think they are cool cars and should have been handled with more care seeing as they were supposed to be limited editions :(

Has just happened to my old Girl, too. :( See pic in my sig.

It is going to cost me Euro250+ labour for the section from the manifold to the 1st join

Well actually this isn't a Compressor issue, it's a modern car problem according to my mechanic.

It's all fixed now anyway.

I did get a price for a new silencer, had to get a quote from Toyota, it was a whopping £578 + VAT. So instead I opted for my mechanics suggestion of fitting a new flange and welding the pipe back onto the silencer, cost £70. He could do this because there was no damage to the silencer or the pipe it was purely the join that had gone.

yea good idea, but if the damage is worse and the cost higher id just get a custom SS catback from Powerflow or something.

will cost you less than a toyota part, live longer, weigh less, more bhp....

etc

The compressor exhausts have given a few problem, however exhausts, brakes tyres are all items which are generally wear and tear. I would in the long term look at a custom exhaust maybe a catback, shouldnt set you back much and theres more gains ;)

The exact same thing happened to my compressor in October last year, pipe broke away from the flange. I managed to get a new back box under warranty as it was a failure of the weld apposed to the problem being rust related. ;)

I was told that the back box I got was the last in stock in the uk and it is usually 500 sheets, which is a bit much for an exhaust back box. Next time unfortunately I would have to get a plain T sport exhaust!!!!!! :(

Going to live with this for a few moe months then get a custom stainless one made up. The sound the car made with no back box was immense especially at 8k rpm :D

If exhausts are constantly going @ the joins, could this mean they they need more support along the length, to stop them flexing ?
