2nd Car - Not Toyota I Know!

My mate wants shot of a Mk2 Golf Gti, he only wants £200-£300 for it & it's not in bad condition, although it's been off the road for about 6-months when he paid £800.

I drove it tonight to move it up near my house for safe keeping for a couple of days & I quite liked it! B) Another mate had a Mk1 Gti a few years ago & I've always had a thing about them.

Question is do I want it? Track day car? What do you guys think?

It's a 3 door 16 valve model, D reg, 105k, Magnex backbox, 16" VW alloys, lowered, very decent interior for a D reg, slightly faded red paintwork in places, MOT til April, no tax, could use a service & I'm not sure of the mechanicals but VAG/Specialist s/h.

It's no bling mobile but for £200? :D Thing that worry's me is insurance, but perhaps on a limited milage policy it might be ok? Arrrgghh I don't know?!?!?!

Go for it.... VW comes a very close second to Toyota in my book.

I have owned 1lt polo and 2 golf gti mk2, also still have my mk1 gti... there cracking little cars, they will take all thrown at them plus laugh in your face because they want more. :D

The parts are very cheap thanks to German and Swedish or eurocarparts, there is an absolutely huge following in all country's, go have some fun, you wont look back.

One thing the 16v's need to be reved to get going, the 8v are lots more fun for around town, both good in there own way tho.

(You have a pic of my other ride BTW!)

I noticed the revving thing!

I've seen the other pic, I think it looks cool! B)

Just looked up the insurance & it's group 15-17 <_< Might phone my insurer tomorrow, I wouldn't want to throw money at the thing if it's just for knocking about in.

It's very tempting with the keys sitting here though! :D

I'm no Golf lover, but I've always liked a good deal. If you've got a place to keep it, and TP only insurance is reasonable, then you can't really go wrong. If it blows up then you scrap it.

On the other hand it could become a money drain as there is no end to the modding possible on a Golf :P

Could always get a trailer, then you wouldnt have to insure it.

Heard they make pretty good track mobiles, stripped out, suspension e.t.c the mk1's were better though.

Yea my thoughts exactly nws25, minus the trailor part as I could tow with the Seo!

Trying to get a couple of mates to go in on it with me as a track car, would be great fun!

Having said that I'm worried about the money drain thing! <_<

Would make a proper good project-car for track days etc,

If you have a few spare foot of offroad parking on your drive go for it!

if u do take the car... i wouldnt start spending on it, cos that's money u could put together with ur paseo for a trade in for something else at a later date

I said trailer, as you wouldnt be able to tow it being uninsured, mot'd, tax'd.

I'd get it at that price, strip it out, get some suspension on it and leave it at that. Im sure you'd have a great time, especially on bendy tracks.

3 wheel cornering here we come :D
