Correct Atf For Auto Transmission

Want to change the Auto Transmission fluid on my 59000 miler. Anyone know the correct fluid to use? (Most Internet posts suggest using Toyota type T 4, my Toyota dealer says Toyota Dextron III).

According to this you should not use Dextron III. There does, though, seem to be some confusion re obtaining Toyota TIV atf; see here.

Many thanks, very useful info. Having spoken to another Toyota dealer, they confirmed the correct fluid is Type T IV. Going back to the original dealer, this time a diffrent parts guy, also confirmed type IV. They will get it for me but only comes in 5l and eye wateringly expensive! Still, I would rather use the correct stuff than risk damage to the transmission, which apparently the Dextron III would do.

The correct part number for ATF T 1V is 08886-82025 it comes in 5L packs and is priced at £48.63 for 5 Litres. For some strange reason only known to Toyota, it has a part desciption which is INCORRECT, they call it POWER STEERING FLUID which that part number is not. Hope you managed to keep up with that Wait until CVT gets popular, that is another type of ATF
