Just purchased this model and it seems a good car.

Couple of questions.....

Been reading about condensation in the headlights, which seems OK at present, but will keep a very close eye

on it but am keen to possibly upgrade the headlight bulbs. They seem OKish having just done one night time

drive.

What is the recommended uprate for these bulbs?

Thanks

Ken

Hi Ken,

Recently I changed my bulbs on my T3-X (2004 1.8)

Check out the following links, 1st is Auto Express product test on bulbs. I went for the Philips Extreme Power, and I have to say they do cost more at @£30 a pair, BUT they are VERY good. The light output is excellent and has totally changed my night time driving experience.

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/prod...tbulb_test.html

A good source of bulbs is PowerBulbs. They do anything and everything for the cars lights. I also changed my sidelight bulbs at the same time, one of them went out prior to me ordering the main bulbs. I got the Philips Blue Vision, £10 for pair. When i orderd i got a free gift. Which was another packet of Blue Vision side lamp bulbs. Nice.

http://www.powerbulbs.com/index.asp

I toyed with the idea of going for other high power bulbs instead of the Extreme Power for £30, but all others were lower light outputs and only maybe £5 - £8 less per pair, so I went for the Auto Express winner.

On a separate note the Auto Express site is great for ALL sorts of product reviews!

Good luck!

Mike

Mike,

Thanks for that. I am assuming that there is little, if no, danger in the new bulbs overheating the light fittings and causing it to melt

as some of the comments on here hava said have happened.

Will go look at them.

Thanks

Hi,

I think the problem with the plastic lenses burning is not with standard or 30% brighter bulbs, but with the 50%+ brighter bulbs designed for offroad use, as I have never had a problem with the 30% brighter bulbs.

There is a seller on eBay currently selling the Philips HB4 9006 Premium Bulbs Item number: 110338568577 for £14.98 including delivery per pair.

I will be buying them soon & will advise when I get them, If (A), They are genuine & (B), if they work.

Cheers,

Marama32

Even with 50% plus power bulbs they are perfectly safe and do not produce the heat you associate with "rally" bulbs. They also conform to EU road regs so fear not!! The plastic cases issues on other postings is not related to the bulbs causing the heat, as the Extreme Power bulbs are 60/55W rated, and are UV resistant - keeps the temperature down in other words. The ones that melt your plastic are the Rally ones I mentioned earlier which are 90/100W rated. They do generate a load of extra heat, and do carry warnings about melting wires and covers etc. Stick with the Phillips, you will be fine.

I think you will find the problems are with the later model headlights, the earlier ones aren't a problem ASAIK. Just make sure that they are set correctly on the beamsetter as my local Toyota dealer sets them at the lower limit of the MOT range. Mine are reset close to the upper limit and are absolutely fine, you can always lower them with the dashboard adjustment when you are carrying rear seat passengers or heavy luggage.
