Valve Cover Nuts

Does anyone know what the torque settings of the valve cover nuts on the pre 2001 engine should be?

The Chilton manual states 3344 Ft-ibs for the 'Spark plug tube nuts' which is obviously incorrect! I noticed that the later engine suggests 96 in-lbs/11Nm for a not dissimilar item.

With these modern type of gaskets, I am unsure as to how squished they should be (other than nowhere near a compressed as the previous garage set the valve cover gasket!).

33ft/lbs

44Nm

From my manual.

As ever, many thanks Anchorman. I did wonder if the ridiculous 3344 ft-lbs in the Chilton manual was what you state and yet another example of poor proof-reading by Haynes.

With any luck (and snow permitting, not to mention the Health & Safety wallers that prevent the Northlink boats sailing above a bit of a breeze — sorry, I mean for my "comfort, convenience, & safety") I shall eventually get the Rav home next week.

I have to report that although expensive (well, London prices that come as a bit of a shock to a tight-wad like myself), Curry Motors in Isleworth have been really efficient with the couple of jobs I got them to do as well as obtaining spare parts.
