Clutch Problem

Hi,

i could do with some advice please.

Just rescued my wife from the side of the road.

Apparently revs picked up and she lost drive, eventually grinding to a halt.

Sounds like the cliutch I think to myself.

I got in, felt like some forwrd drive was there but was being stopped by locked front wheels.

Could not push it forwrd, so rolled it back into a side road, some drive available but clutch sounded noisy

Would a clutch cause the problems I have mentioned??

If it is a clutch is it a dealer only fix or would a local garage be able to do it??

Thanks for your help.

Need some more details about your car, yr, petrol or diesel etc

As above. Not necessarily a dealer only job. I did mine myself along with the DMF which is on diesels.

Yes sorry..02 Rav 4 Deisel 2.0

Sounds to me a bit like the dual mass flywheel. It's around that age they were prone. Do a search on this forum, and be seated :(

Thanks for the gloomy advice!!

We shall see what we can see.

Guess what the dealer has quoted to do clutch and flywheel?

£1700 !

Have managed to find a local guy, who knows what he is talking about who will do both...if it needs it for £1000.

Here is the question.

If it is just the clutch, would I be sensible to have the flywheel changed while it is 'opened up'.

Let me know what you think...Thanks

I did my own which cost around £650 for parts including DMF and Clutch as one kit from eBay. If you have someone who will do it for £1000 that sound good to me. I would do both cos once you are that far in the labour is the same. Go for it. It will be fine afterwards.
