I decided it might be a good idea to get a broader sense of how widespread this problem might be so I'm inviting anyone with a T180 Verso to answer the questions and take part in the poll.

Thanks for reading, Jon.

The poor fuel economy also affects the other T180's i.e RAV, Avensis & Auris + Lexus IS220d's.

Thanks, I know, believe me I've read everything I can find to get my head around this but the evidence is pretty piecemeal and the Verso appears to be quite a lot worse than the others judging by reading the forum replies.

I'd be content with 35 mpg+ FGS!!!!! I can't even average that on the motorway!!!!

My dealer refered to all other T180's and he said he hasn't heard of this problem before.

Well, I've just had the car to the dealer. They "cleaned" the EGR valve which was dirty and reprogrammed the ECU. I aked why the EGR would need cleaning after only 2k miles and they said a lot has to do with the way the car is driven. A lot of short journeys can lead to the valve becoming clogged; motorway journeys are better.

The software reprogramme is an attempt to counteract this by making the car run more leanly when necassery and prevent the problem reoccuring.

So, it seems Toyota must be aware of this issue for them to provide a software update as a specific remedy.

I shall monitor, so far there doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference but I'll see over my next tank full.
