Air Condition Issue

2003 Corolla Luna. I have a feeling that the air conditioning is not outputting well. Last summer, I had to switch the knob to 3 to get decent cooling while when the car was purchased, 1 did the job always.

Anyway, went to Halfords this afternoon and saw that they were checking A/C for free. The guy took one of those cans with a pressure gauge reader and told me to switch it on to max. He connected the gauge to the inlet of the AC under the bonnet and the gauge showed green (the upper edge and then it would go halfway to blue. Now green meant top up and blue meant it is fine. As I said it was always on the edge of the green and toward the blue mark. The interesting thing (for the guy there) was that every say 20 seconds there was a click and during the click, the gauge would rise toward the blue and then slowly go down toward the green. He said he had never heads sch a weird thing. It was a mechanical click. It sounded fine (not a breaking sound or anything like that).

My question is:

- If the pressure in the a/c system was relatively OK, why do I lack the effect. The front windscreen fogs constantly and I have to set the inlet to blow on windscreen all the time. The pollen filter was replaced a few months ago.

- What is the click that I described above (the click cannot be heart while in the cabin but just when the bonnet was open.

Noone got back to me so I emailed an ac/c service and here's what the guy said:

1.the clicking might be you compressor engaging [normal}

2.if pressure is normal it does not say the system is full.

when it clicked pressure dropped to low and disengaged your compressor,then built up pressue again and your pressure safety switch and aloud your compressor to engage again.this would sound like whwt was going on and this would mean your not getting 10% cooling.Only guessing from your info.

3wouldnt say you have any issue with your compressor.

4 solution???? reclaim and weight refrigerant from your vehicle+vaccum system and recharge with right amount of R134A +OIL+U/V leak dye to help find maybe a very slow leak.

5 can do this on weekends if needed.
