With the recent bad weather here in the UK and being new to the Aygo, I was a bit surprised by how much of the screen the wiper misses at the drivers A pillar. Being new to the car, I nearly missed seeing someone on a crossing as they were in the 'dead zone' (no pun intended :o ) so I've just had a look at the wiper mechanism and I've moved my wiper anti-clockwise (looking from outside the car) a little on the splined wiper spindle from the motor. It makes the wiper sit a little higher when it's parked but I don't mind that and prefer having more of the screen wiped where it's important.

So, for those less mechanically minded...

  1. Make sure you know where the wiper sits when it is parked as you will need this as a reference for the new wiper position.
  2. Where the steel arm of the wiper attaches to the car you will find a plastic cap which covers a 13mm nut.
  3. Prise the cap off and put it in your pocket for safe keeping.
  4. Using a 13mm spanner or socket undo (anti-clockwise) the nut on the wiper motor spindle and also put the nut in your pocket for safe keeping.
  5. Grab the metal part of the wiper arm near where the nut was and give it a bit of a pull and a wiggle, be careful, it will be tight and will probably take a few goes.
  6. Once the wiper is removed from the splines on the spindle it is free to rotate.
  7. Move it anticlockwise a little from it's original position and push it onto the splined section of the wiper motor spindle. Don't be tempted to move it too far or the wiper may go past the edge of the screen when it wipes.
  8. Re-attach the nut tight enough to ensure the wiper is on the motor.
  9. Test the 'sweep' of the wiper by activating your wipers as usual.
  10. If satisfactory tighten the nut, replace the plastic cap and revel in your new found vision B) . If not adjust it until you're happy!

Only a little thing, but for me, another that makes me happier :D

I had the same issue - when I took my car in for a repair they moved the wiper closer to the bonnet but but in doing so restricted my viewing at the A pillar - which was very dangerours in the rain and snow!

I did a similar thing to you but not as deliacte or professional - I basically took the cap off the wiper head, loosened the screw, yanked it back into place (higher above the bonnet) and put the cap back on....now the A pillar is fine, not so bothered about the wiper being a bit higher on the windscreen

Thanks, that's really helpful. I'd tried to do this before but couldn't figure out how to move the wiper arm around - I hadn't wwanted to use too much force and snap something, but this has worked perfectly (other than the wiper sitting across the bottom 1cm or so of windscreen when not activated).
