Changing Brake Hoses On 4.1 - What Do I Need To Know?

I am about to change the brake hoses on my 96 4.1.

It is the hoses on front left+right.

I got them from Toyota, but is there anything I should know before changing them out? Any advice from someone having done it?

Thanks.

Nothing special. If you don't intend changing the fluid (but you should if it is 2 years old or close to it) then you can stretch some polythene over the master cylinder and refit the cap. It will stop the fluid leaking out by gravity.

I usually undo the end at the caliper then turn the complete pipe at the upper end.

Good luck.

anchormans yer man!!!

I would however change the fluid while yer doing the job....and check the condition of the rest of the braking system - which I suspect you've already done!

Clean the front calipers and even renew the sliding pins on the front calipers - these things get gummed up etc and lead to problems with the calipers sticking and ruining the discs.
