Hi! A Little Question...

Hi everyone!

Sorry that my first post is a question, but I have a bit of a problem... I've had my gen7 Celica for about a month now, it's a 1999 VVTi model with about 50k on the clock. For the last few days I have noticed that the carpet in the driver's footwell and the rear footwell on the driver's side is absolutely sodden. The carpet running up to the seat in the rear is dry, as is the carpet underneath the driver's seat and by the door sill on the driver's side. The passenger side is completely dry, and there are no drips or anything on the seats. The roof lining is also all dry.

I've done a search on the forum and found the thread about checking the sunroof drainage holes, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas about where else to check? I kind of know my way around a car, but I want to avoid having to take it to a mechanic to sort this out.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!

Do you park on a hill car facing down? If you do, check boot seal.

Do you smell a sweet smell when you turn the heating on? Does your windscreen mist when heating is on? Any loss of coolant? If this is yes then your heater matrix could be shot.

...have you spilt a drink? Just joking ;)

Thanks for your reply! The car stays level all day whilst parked. No sweet smell, the windscreens are quite often misted though, either in the morning or when I get back to it after work?

And spilling a drink is a viable option with me! But no, no clumsiness that I can remember... :)

Ive had a similar problem with my gt4, lots of condensation and a wet driverside carpet. I had to remove the driveside wheel arch lining and in there there is a little grommet that had split letting water into the cabin, bung a new grommet in and seal it up. Don't know if its the same on a gen7 but just a thought.

Yeah, common problem with the G7 is where the spoiler attaches to the boot lid, or the rear light clusters.

There's been a few noted problems from memory of the window not sealing properly on the doors either.

That's brilliant, a few more options for me to look into :) I've noticed that since we haven't had any heavy rain for a few days the carpet is drying, so there must be a leak somewhere rather than a condensation issue.

Thanks for your help!
