How To Remove Handbrake Surround Trim

I need to do two things:

1. connect the handbrake wire from my new stereo/dvd thing

2. put the ipod cable some where convenient

For the handbrake line, I want to splice it in to the sensor at the handbrake, but to do this, need to remove the surounding trim - how do I do this please?

For the ipod cable, I want to have it available either in the armrest bin (bit of cutting required), so removing the handbrae trim should help here. OR, I'd like it in the little pocket under the steering wheel. This pocket looks like it should detatch, but I've no idea how - help?

To remove the panel under the steering;

Just below the RH fresh air vent there is a small switch panel. It just prizes out. If it won't come easily use a small screwdriver to remove one of the switches so you can get your finger inside and pull the panel.

It will then reveal the upper screw here;

Remove it and the two lower screws then give it a firm but even pull (don't pull all from one edge) to remove it off the securing clips.

Unplug the wires from the remaining switches.

unfortunately, I'm too impatient :-)

there are two bolts under the rear cup holder (lift mat in bottom), and two screws under the handbrake surround. Take care of the connection to the power outlet - that flew off when I took the trim out - but I have managed to clip it back in.

For the ipod connector, I undid the 3 screws on the side of the bin and that opened up a gap in that side at the bottom of the bin - I then used a sharp knife to cut a semi circle hole in the edge of the floor of the bin and fed the ipod cable in so that the cable fit in the semicircle. when screwed back together , and the mat put back in the bottom of the bin, it's perfect.

For the handbrake connector, there is the tinyest amount of wire between the handbrake light switch and the part of the loom it connects to - but there is just enough to get one of those blue splicing connectors over it (once the protecting sheath is cut back. so that's the handbrake line connected and I now have DVD on the screen when stationary.

I fitted a Toyota iPod kit so that the iPod is in the tray under the central arm rest and the interface box is mounted behind the vertical trim at the rear of the armrest. I extended the wiring by splicing the lead between the interface and the read of the radio/cd/satnav. Works fine and the only mod to the trim was cutting a hole in the bottom of the tray to get the iPod plug ( and phone plug ) through.
