Fitting A Touchscreen

Hey,

Just bought my 2001 Celica today but theres a problem with the volume control. That's fine because I wanted to fit a new touchscreen DVD/GPS/CD/MP3 etc into the dash.

Is this quite easy to do? The celica has double din so has the room, but is any modification needed to the wiring etc. or the dash to fit the unit properly?

Havent bought the system yet so any recommendations on a specific model that is quite easy to fit would be greatly appreciated and any general help on what to do as I'm sure its not as easy as pulling the old one out, attaching a few wires and then plugging the new fancy one in, is it?

Thanks!

Hiya. The wiring on a Celica doesn't conform to standard, so firstly you'll need a wiring adapter. This will plug into the existing harness and have the correct plugs on for your stereo.

Then you'll need to get facia in fill adapters. The stereo in a celica is wider than double din, but the back of it has standard double din mounts. So you need to get the bits of plastic that fill the hole either side of the stereo. To mount it, you simply take the brackets that hold the old stereo off it and attach them to the new one.

There's a guide over on Celica Club if there's not already one on here.

ahh okay, think i can get an adaptor off eBay for not too much, and probs the infills too.

and then you literally just plug it in? despite having video/dvd etc, it has the same plug as a regular kenwood?? or are there extra connections i need to make?

thanks

You'll be fine mate, it's really not difficult at all providing you follow the guides. And yes it is a case of just plugging it in once you have the adapters.

Regarding extra connections they will only come if you add extra stuff such as amp, reversing camera, games console or whatever. Apart from that they're just the same as a normal car stereo.
