:crybaby: Hi guys, could someone give me some advice on why my car will not start. Have tried new leads, replaced the coil and checked the distributer.

Plenty of fuel coming in, ocasional backfire, but still will not fire up. There is an old alarm still wired in, however purchased the car working 2 years ago, never had a fob or key for this alarm.

Please help me out here as i am desperate, cannot afford Toyota s garage bill which I think will send me bust.

Thanks

It stricky one this. Good news is you get a backfire which is something.Unscrew one of your plugs and rest and still conected to the Ht lead rest it on the inlet manifold. Get someont to turnover the engine and check the spark is ocilating rapidly. You may need to do this at dusk.

If the plugs are sparking fine and you have petrol coming through. Then you you should be in business. Test and clean all your other spark plugs in the same way. A good tip if they are damp is to pot a cigarette lighter on them for thirty secounds each - then wire brush them and make sure the gaps are about .25 ( I take it there are no rattling clanking or knocking noises from the engine when you turn it over?)

If all this is fine then it would the ignition timing.Check http://searchgood.info/2searchi.php?q=celi...ming&aid=58
