Hello all,

I have just moved over after 3 years with the Nissan X-Trail and have now got myself a new Rav4 XTR 4.3

My question is, I am looking to fit a set of roof rails and quite fancy the "silver" ones B) but can anyone tell me

what they are made from?

I dont want them peeling like the chromed plastic after market bits you can buy.

Also what is the cost???

thanks, rangermastiffs

I've fitted the black ones to mine, I reckon they are powder coated alluminium. If you buy them through a member called

Part-king who works for Toyota you will get a discount. Here's his details if you want to PM him. -

Thanks for reply Dave,

I cant see the silver ones being powder coated?? or you would not get the shine on the finish ??

If I could get my hands on a set I would be able to tell the finish.

On another note I noticed you have the side bars fitted, are they genuine Toyota or have you

got them from elsewhere.? I think the bars look much better than the steps.

Thanks for welcome !

I think dave.m had the sidebars made up from railway rails down at a nearby station - there was a siding excess to requirements. The downside was that he damaged the car trying to get the 60' lengths tied to the Roof Rack

You're right Bothy, but it was the burning gear that did the damage

I got my side steps from Parts-King, quite expensive and rather heavy as well. I agree the bars look better.

I had bars on my previous 4.2, but I need the steps as it helps her indoors to get her mother in the car as she

is disabled. They are also quite handy to clean the roof, and sticking out further than the bars you get a little

extra side protection from low down door dings.

You don't get a very good view of 'em in this shot, but these are the genuine Toyota 4.3 side bars from Kingo. Very easy to fit yourself, if you are handy with a spanner.

The silver ones, pretty much match the paintwork on SHCMs rav shown above, However they are approx £50 dearer than black ones I seem to recall, but check with Kingo who will also give you a price for steps OEM Genuine Toyota..

The silver OEM ones on mine (came with the car) appear to be the same colour as the (silver) bodywork, at least by the streetlight outside :). If they peel I'll be claiming under warranty. No idea what they're made from, sorry.

Thanks for all the replies,

When I had my x-trail I designed, made and fitted my own side bars from 316 stainless, I am not a fan of chrome !

I have sent a mail to Kingo and will await his reply.

thanks again.
