1997 Toyota Corolla Questions I Need Help With Before Tomorrow.

Hi all. I'm new here :)

My friend has a 1997 Toyota Corolla. It's a 1.3 petrol engine with a 6 speed gearbox.

We're giving it a service and are going to change the gearbox oil tomorrow.

How much does it need and is it drained and filled by bolts at the bottom and side/top? I've not spotted them yet so wasn't 100% on their locations...

How much oil does the 6 speed box need?

Also if anyone knows, he's lost the handbook and I'm uncertain on how much oil it needs. I'm guessing 3.5-4 litres as it's quite a small engine?

Oh and one more thing. Is the cambelt a belt or a chain, and how what are the change intervals?

Thanks in advance everyone :D

not a hundred percent sure on the locations of the drains on the 6 speed, but i know the 5 has a drain on the passengers side of the box pretty much directly under the driveshaft, and the filler hole is on the front of the gearbox you should be able to find it quite easily, they should both be 24mm single hex bolts, your supposed to fill them to 5mm under the level of the drain holes, so if you drain the gearbox then lower the car and fill it up, a funnel with a tube works well, fill it till it starts to pour out then let it drip for a while before putting the plug back in, will technically be overfilled, but by such a small amount that it doesnt really matter, as for the actual capacity i dont know but a 5 litre bottle should be more than enough, also make sure you use 75w90 oil

i hope this helps, i am pretty sure its the same for the 6 speed as i think its just a 5 speed with differnet internals and a slightly longer end cap, but i cant really remember servicing one

Thanks fella. I'll have a look for those tomorrow. At least I don't have to take the wheel and arch liner off like on my 306 :)

Hi all I need a little more help. I found the drain plug no problem at all, a 24mm bolt underneath. But I can't see a 24mm filler hole?

I've taken two pictures and highlighted possibilities, can someone tell me which is the filler plug?

This looked the most promising as it's about half way up the box at the front.
