Average Mpg Resetting When Tank About 1/4 Full

I have recently bought a 2005 Avensis T3-X. About half the time the average mpg resets as the fuel tank reading drops close to 1/4 full and it then starts to give a reading based on miles travelled since that reset.

An example is after a long motorway journey the mpg might be reading 40, but if it resets while I'm driving in town it can suddenly read around 25.

This only happens with the mpg figure. None of the other readings are reset when this occurs.

Anyone else experienced similar?

Not the same fault, but i picked my T3-X up yesterday and topped the tank up this morning but the range didn't alter, it seems to think with extra fuel in the car the range is the same, i'm assuming it's faulty and will have to go back to the dealer for repair.
