Crashed

Hello, this is my first post on the Auris club, I'm a regular Aygo driver because I mostly city drive. Still, I drove the Auris outside of the city plenty of times. Until 2 months ago, when we crashed (me, my girlfriend and her grandmother). We are all ok, the impact was on the driver's side (my side, left hand drive).

I'm fully healed now but I did have a broken left shoulder plate, broken the 4th right rib and a broken pelvis. Not to mention the bruising of like half of my left body.

The ideea is: I am glad we all made it, and only I was hurt in the accident.

In case you are wondering how it happened - we hit a pothole at about 62 mph (100 km/h) with the right back wheel, that spun us 180 degrees and we hit a tree on the side of the road with the driver's side of the car. The road was straight as a line, and we were the only ones on it. So, bad luck, a MASSIVE pothole and a bit of speed can get you to the ER - where we also were taken. I was the one who recovered conscience first, you can imagine my gf waking up in the ER 4 hours after the accident.

The insurrance will pay off any day now, and we are getting another auris (probably different color - maybe the aygo's color because the black was getting dirty way too fast)

Cheers :)

HOLY CRAP

I’m so glad all 3 of you ‘walked’ away from that. A lesser car and I think the outcome would have been different.

Glad you are all OK.

I can see why you want another one

looked at the pics first and thought that had to be a fatal. amazing you all came away with relativly minor injuries. side air curtain works then.

Jesus, man... If I had looked at the pictures before I read your post, I also would suggest that the impact has been fatal and would never guess the impact occurred at a speed less than 150 km/h... Glad you are all OK!

Cars do come and go, you can always buy or even get a new one... The main thing is that Auris' good safety and some good luck did save you from the worst :)

Best regards, Alex

Nope, it didn't have VSC. Don't know if that would have made any difference at all, because it was all over in 3 seconds.

Sorry, I can't give out any parts since the insurrance owns it now(and they sold it yesterday). I even forgot to snatch the gear knob to fit on my Aygo, but it's ok, don;t know if it would have fitted anyway.

Went down to mr T yesterday, the cars they have in stock left us with the "best" option of getting the diesel version 1.4 in black - again. One thing tho, the corolla sedan is exactly the same price as the Auris now, with the same engine and the same options. We will think about that too :)

PS: Also with us in the car was our cat. The ambulances got us but they left him behind. It took 3 weeks for the left arm cast to come off and another 3 to confirm the pelvis was repaired. And after 2 more weeks, after I could walk and stand normally, we went back to the accident location, to search for our cat. There was a slim chance, but we hoped we would find him. And we did :D At the 7th location we looked (the accident location was about 1 mile from a village and 0.5 miles from another village, and we asked around the houses there). We found him through a woman that said she thinks her mother had a stray cat. And she did, he was in the attic and when he heard us he jumped down. Well... he didn't look so good. About 1/3 of his weight, with missing hair and some skin problems. He is OK now tho, and regaining his weight - about 3/4 recovered now.

Anyway, I've attached 2 more pics of the car. BTW, the wheels were stolen in the night we had our accident.

The more i look at these photos the more amazed i am at the fact that you all are ok, its quite a testament to the car's strength.

How deep was the pot hole that caused this?

Hi Crisskro,

You were damn lucky my friend. I was reading your posts and my eyes were like  because you are from Tm.

Thank God, everything is ok with you guys.

And yes... very safe car, even without VSC.

Take care.

The pothole was about half a meter in diameter. And there were three of them, consecutive - I think I only hit the last one. Lucky for us the tree we hit was HUGE and the energy got spread. If it would have been a smaller tree in diameter, it would have entered the car even more than it did. I may not have been here if we would have hit the second tree (smaller tree).

pmhoria - glad to see someone from my country on the forum :) The crash was around Jamu Mare, about 60 km from TM (from the Sag exit). When we went searching for my cat, the potholes were gone. They fixed the whole road, new asphalt but only on the lane we had the crash.

That's so typical, they do improvements only when the accident has allready happened... And still try to do only the minimum!

Best regards, Alex
