Hi all urgent help/advice needed please.

Battery suddenly went flat (int. lights maybe left on?), on connecting after recharging alarm went off, only stopped with key in ignition. On starting the car the oil level, brake warning (not handbrake) and Battery warning lights stayed on and did not go off with revving. Noticed voltmeter at 18 volts. With all load on eg headlights, rear screen and blower on the volts dropped to about 15. Stopped engine to check Battery and all cells seem ok and volts good. On restarting engine warning lights still on but now no charge at all. Volt meter reading in center of gauge but drops with load. All obvious fuses and wiring checked and are ok

Any ideas for cause and repair pease. Vehicle currently VOR as MOT expired whilst sorting this problem so can't be driven!!

What does a multimeter say the voltage is across the Battery with the engine running. Alternator should put out just over 14v and a fully charged Battery should read about 13v. If Alternator and Battery test ok. Leave battery off for 10 minutes. Try again.

Battery voltage is same at about 12.5 with engine on or off and drops slowly with load applied - no increase with engine revs.

Are the other warning lights related ie off same supply circuit. Is there a voltage regulator for the dash instruments and lights/

Sounds like you need a new alternator. You should get at least 14v across the battery with the engine running.

Alternator had failed and a new one plus new batt fitted now all charging ok but the 3 warning lights still on.

(Oil level, brake warning and charge warning) all these items are ok.

I think you may have a faulty ignition switch. This might explain the sudden flat Battery and alternator failure.
