Engine Tapping Noise... Solutions?

hi ther, i would like to gather some info on my t-sport's tapping noises and hopefully the solutions.

i have no idea wot is it, when my t sport is sat on idling is fine. only can hear it when driving, rattles more at low rev ranges,1k-3k. and when its at higher revs the rattle turns into more of a valve tapping but its distinctive,

this tapping/rattling noise also seems to corresponds to throttle too. its an 03 facelift model has 90k but serviced well.

if any1 know wot is it and how i can solve ths, please advice! thanks and much appreciated!

you could try using a better quality oil and a main dealer oil filter, toyotas do suffer from noisey tappets. but you shouldnt be hearing it up tru the gears, try oil n filter n c if you get an inprovement.

thanx, i have tried that already, and its hasn't gone better... its kind of annoying rattle and tapping and would like to know whats it is to resolve it :(

just sounds horrible! i have done a some reading up on it. would just like to how to find out what it is!

that sounds like your engine timing belt, if i was you i wouldnt drive it and get it looked at asap coz if that belt snapped your whole engine is gone!!

They don't have a timing belt, it's a timing chain. But, any tappety noise isn't good so you really ought to get it looked at by someone that knows what they're doing as above.

Auxillary belt tensioners sometimes cause a tapping noise. They are oil filled damping and sometimes air gets generated inside and makes the tensioner go noisey. If you get a spanner on the tensioner and release tension a few times, this normally helps. Worth a try, wont cost you anything, just make sure the belt doesnt pop off!
