Do you own a new iQ or 2009 Avensis?

We want to hear from you, PM me with how it feels, what you like about it, how it feels for you (easy!)

We dont want chapter and verse, but a few lines would be fine, or if you are adventurous, record your review in mp3 format and mail it to me (email address can be given in a PM)

Your review will appear on LINDOP TOYOTA

Thanks

John.... give me a while and I'll give you my opinions of the car when I get it

Trouble is though the car is taking a long time to come through. I ordered a T4 Tourer Auto with Protection pack and Sat-Nav, the dealer told me it is a delivery time of some 10+ weeks  That was over 4 weeks ago :(

I know that the Toyota plants are on reduced working but this seems a long time to me especially when the car is only coming from Derbyshire

To Parts-King,

Just an update on question you posed, to date from your initial posting have counted 3 MK3 Avensis, yes just 3. No need to mention country please, from other contacts you know my where abouts. One is in local Town, owned by friend of a friend of a friend. When i get the opportunity to have a chat i will post his opinion of new model.

Regards, Beagh.

PS: This being _ _ _ _ _ _ land, this is very bad news for Toyota.

Blimey give it time, the car is a new model only recently released and the owners need time to get the feel of the car  Another issue to consider is the fact that Toyota are putting the cars out very slowly given the state of the automotive industry, my own order is a case in point.... delivery = 3 months from the time of order. I think this is bad given that my previous car, a Nissan Z, took the same time and that came from Japan

I think the tourers look pretty damn good, sad there is no Hatch option, the boot is too deep to get access easily to back when full. Not seen ANY on the road yet!! :(

I totally agree with you regarding the lack of a hatch version.... I did consider the saloon but as the back of the boot is so far back it would have been a :censor: of a job for me to load and unload the car given my height and bad back :(

Hi

I bought a Toyota avensis TR tourer in feb and my daughter bought an IQ at the same time, The IQ has been an excelent car the performance is good the fuel economy is very good. It is fun to drive and feels like a lot bigger car on the road.

WITH THE AVENSIS I WOULD WARN ANY BODY TO SERIOUSLY RECONSIDER BUYING ONE OF THESE, I HAVE HAD 3 OF THE PREVIOUS MODELS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, THE NEW ONE I HAD FOR A WEEK AND THEN IT HAS BEEN OFF THE ROAD FOR SIX WEEKS. I GOT IT BACK 2 DAYS AGO. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE MANUFACTURE OF THE SEAT WHICH IS NOT UP TO STANDARD AND GIVES WAY, SO IS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO SIT IN DUE TO WERE THE PLASTIC CLIPS THAT HOLD THE COVER ON ARE POSITIONED.

AS TOYOTA REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AS THEY SAY IT IS ME NOT THE CAR, THOUGH MY DEALER AGREES WITH ME, THE DEALER HAVE BROUGHT IN AN INTERIOR SPECIALIST WHO HAS REBUILT BOTH FRONT SEATS. I AM NOW TRYING THE CAR OUT SO TIME WILL TELL.

THE OTHER PROBLEM IS WITH THE HAND BRAKE WHICH WILL NOT AUTOMATICALY RELEASE IN REVERSE (WHICH I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BY THE SALES PEOPLE) AND THE POSITION OF THE OPPERATING SWITCH IS VERY DIFICULT TO GET AT,

THE SCREEN WASHERS WERE USELESS SO THEY HAD TO FIT RAV 4 WASHER NOZZLES.

I ASKED TOYOTA TO REPLACE THE CAR WITH A T4 AND I WOULD HAVE PAID THE DIFFERENCE IN PURCHASE PRICE BUT THEY REFUSED SAYING THE SEAT FRAME OF THE LEATHER SEATS WAS THE SAME AS THE CLOTH SO IT WOULD BE NO BETTER FOR ME.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Cor blimey Burnham.... I know you want to get your point across but there is no need to shout.... or did you forget you had your caps lock on

I have ordered the T4 and the interior looks fine to me and it was comfortable on my test drive, if there is a problem then there is a warranty to back me up :)

Hi

Sorry about that but frustration with toyota getting the better of me.

I have found with the seats warranty will be no help if there is a problem.

with mine the test drive was fine, and the first 1200 miles then the problems start!

John (Parts King).... I am a little concerned regarding Burnham's comments regarding the quality of the seats. You may recall that I still have a T4 Tourer on order, flippin heck it is taking ages to come through, so you will I am sure understand that I have slight worries regarding the seats. Are you aware of such problems or do you think his situation is a 'one off'?

Not heard anything bad from any drivers of new Avensis. I drove a Tourer a few days ago and thought it was superb, from time to time we do get people who cannot get comfortable in a car, no matter how much seat adjustment (for instance) can they get it right, so this must be a one off. Toyota are following up ALL customer concerns on this model, I have taken a few calls from technical dept when we have ordered a warranty part, wanting to know the exact fault/customer concern, so they do follow things up in the background without you knowing

John.... Thanks for that swift reply

I am going to keep a totally open mind regarding the car when I get it and will try everything out in the first couple of weeks. Frankly I don't see why the Avensis seats should be much different from those in my LC or my wife's Prius, surely they must be constructed in a similar way  The one advantage I have is that I have a fat butt so I spread the weight over a large area.... maybe that will be to my advantage

Hi all

I just wanted to add a bit more info, Toyota did lend me a car for the 6 weeks my car has been off the road which i was gratefull for. There attitude over the problem stiil annoys me.

My dealer has been excelent they have had both front seats stripped and rebuilt, which has made a big difference.

Here something to make you think, I ordered my car at the begining of feb they quoted me 1 week delivery even though the car had'nt been made at that point, it arrived in 10 days due to the snow stopping delivery. There have been a lot of senior toyota personel inspecting my car at the dealer. I know the seats are not made in the uk but in mainland europe. so is the long delay for delivery due to the faults highlited on the first cars supplied.

I do approx 1000 miles a week and I have only seen 2 tourers in the uk and 1 was a dealer demo.

I did approx 100,000 miles in my other avensis's both 2.2 saloons with no problems at all with the seats or anything else.

The new Avensis is a lot more refined on the motorway than the old one you can hold a conversation with the people in the back now, fuel economy is slightly better, the 2 ltr D4d is a bit harsh at 2000rpm.

For me the interior lets the car down, the handbrake switch is a joke were they have put it, again for me the window switches on the drivers door are awkward to get at.

On the old avensis I liked the double decker centre arm rest, on the new one the lid Is a real pain and as it is so deep it is hard to get at things on the move. the cup holder :P on the new one is a pain as well, and a again the old one was far superior from this point of view.

As i rack up the miles I will keep you informed

Hi

My Avensis was in the dealer again yesterday with more problems. I borrowed the new 2009 verso demonstrator. the seats are very comfortable in this car, so if toyota can make good seats for this new model why can't they do the same the avensis.

I think I can safely say I have driven or owned every toyota model in there current line up except the Aygo, and in my opinion the Avensis is the worst car they have ever made.

So stick with the old model, I hopfully will see the back of my 2009 avensis next weekend, :)

You don't specify what the new problems are

You then say "I hopfully will see the back of my 2009 avensis next weekend" Can you please explain what you mean

Hi

there was a problem with the front offside suspension knocking which appears to be fixed, though the windscreen washers are still no good as the water still does not hit the screen at motorway speeds and there is nothing they can do about it as mine is fitted with the highest angle nozzles they make.

I have had enough of the car and my dealer is getting me an old shape avensis to replace this new one :yahoo: so I won't be moaning on the forum any more I hope

also the central locking automaticaly locks when you drive away, but when you stop the rear passengers cant unlock there doors it had to be unlocked on the remote or switch on drivers door, as I thought this was quite dangerous in an emergency the dealer disabled this function.

Well I have the loan car right now.... this is a diesel T4 Tourer :)

Last night a did a reasonable run of a round trip of 100 miles. I like the car.... I like it a lot :D

The engine is good, the equipment is great, finish inside and out is very nice and the seats are really comfortable

I had two friends with me.... one a Jaguar S-type owner and the other a Mercedes C class owner.... both of them like the car and said it is nicely built and looks very solid. Both of them like the styling and felt comfortable, they were also impressed with the feel of the drive and the response of the engine.

The sat-nav/radio set up needs to be learnt but that is simply a matter of time.... both are good and efficient.... I'll let you know more given more time with it.

Well, after just one day with the loan car I am impressed  .... now all I need is to wait 3 weeks until I get my own car and learn the feel of the CVT transmission.

More thoughts will follow

I've had my T4 Tourer CVT for a month now, just cleared the 2000 miles and I can't fault it. It's very smooth, quiet - I added the premium stereo which produces a great sound - the hard drive is a bonus no need to carry around loads of CD's. I'm averaging around 35 MPG mostly motorway driving. The CVT box is great and the sport button gives you a rapid boost of speed - if you want to play just flick it into manual and use the paddle shifts. The wife loves it, the kids love it so it's all good in my book.
