Hello.

Just got a new TR and tried to understand the manual re syncing my mobile thro the bluetooth feature. didnt work as the bluetooth disconneted when i tried to sync. I can install individual numbers through the stereo, but this is too time consuming. Went to Toyota Garage and they didnt have a clue.

Can i sync my mobile phones phonebook thro the bluetooth, surely this is possible, but the garage say no? I have too many contacts to list individually

Any east ways?

I have an after market bluetooth kit, made by Parrot, in my car and it syncronises with my Nokia phone but will not sync with a Motorola. I have no idea why this is so maybe you should try a couple of other bluetooth phones to see if it is the model of phone that is stopping it from working

Please let me know how you get on as I am due to pick up my Avensis in a few weeks time  Good luck

It's funny you should mention this. I have had my TR Avensis for about 3 weeks now. At first I paired my SE k850i with the car without a problem and was able to transfer all my contacts easily enough. The problem was that when someone rang me it would only display their name if the name had been inputted in CAPS otherwise I just got the number being displayed which was a pain because I don't know half of the numbers.

Last night I totally re-wrote all my contacts on the phone and made them all in CAPS thinking this would simply then transfer over to the car. I should have known better. Now when I try to transfer the data the phone disconnects. As soon as I stop the data transfer, the phone connects again. One possible solution that I am looking at is that this time the car paired my phone as a "Personal Audio Device" and not a phone. Will be having another look at lunchtime today and will post if I get it sorted.

On another topic... got a phone call from Mr T a couple of days ago saying the car needs brought in for some safety checks already!!!

No, just said a couple of safety checks, standard procedure with a new model, they said.

I did it the first time just following the on screen instructions whilst waiting for the wife at Tesco's.

<<INFO>>

<<TELEPHONE>>

<<SETTINGS>>

<<BLUETOOTH>>

<<REGISTER>>

Then the phone pops up and asks for the 4 digit code which I input.

Voila, "bluetooth connection successful", appears on the screen.

At this stage I can make calls by inputting the number into the keypad on screen and I can receive any incoming calls.

When I go to Phonebook, and try to transfer data over, the phone pops up and tells me the bluetooth has disconnected, although the very first time I tried this it did work.

Sure you can store phonebook to cars system. Only done it once about 2 months ago so have forgotten procedure. Do you have the manual? I hate reading them but sure the answer will be in there.

Just returned from a different Toyota Garage: guy states they had 2 hours training on the phone system - but get this, only on the system connected to the Sat NAv, which is a £2000 upgrade!, didnt spend anytime on the "standard" in car system!!!. He states very few Nokia phones work as they need some kind of "push" system installed. Sony ericsons are great! He poked about but in the end stated i can save 20 numbers in the car system and have voice recogniton, for all other calls i still need to have the phone in a cradle on the dash to make outgoing calls. So only part way usable. May now buy a standard handsfree kit.

Any ideas to connect to the phone book... or spend £2K for the upgrade

Don't get too excited! I just took delivery of an Avensis T4 with sat nav fitted. I have a Nokia 6300 (have also tried a Nokia 6085) and cannot transfer my contacts. Like others, whenever I press the screen (on the Avensis) to transfer contacts, bluetooth disconnects. When I cancel the transfer, bluetooth reconnects. The system can register 4 phones, and each phone can have 1000 contacts. Not much use if you can't transfer them automatically!!! The sat nav works extremely well, but something is preventing transfer from Nokia phones. My garage tells me Toyota are working on it. BTW I updated my Nokia 6300 firmware - I had ver 5.5, and the latest is 7.21. It made no difference to this transfer problem! :(

I received my Avensis 3 weeks ago and it took me 3 evenings to understand the problem you have.I managed to send contacts one by one .My phone is Nokia.

When you are in transfer mode the bluetooth disconnects, but ignore it and just send the contacts from your phone via bluetooth and transfer will work.It opens up the bluetooth link and seds the contact.I have not yet manage to send the whole phonebook.A friend told me that you should have your contacts in the phones memory not in the SIM card in order to send it. He has got a VW and that worked.I have not yet tried it.

No one really knows how to deal with bluetooth in a Toyota here in Finland. The manual is really crap.It does not make any sens.Toyota should rewrite the manual for bluetooth.

Once you have regesterd your phone (mine is a nokia E71)

make sure the phone is conected to the car THEN on the car menu, go to phone - phonebook - add entry - by phone - confirm.

then on the phone, go to Contacts--Options--Mark/Unmark--Options--Send business card--Via Bluetooth.

the phone will disconect but the transfer will work leave it a second or so and the contact will apper on the car screen, you can then record the voice tag and save (confirm)

it only works one contact at a time but it will work,,, good luck

I have the £2000 upgrade sat nav (which was actually £1500 :!Removed!:) and have an HTC Touch HD, iPhone 3GS and a Nokia N95 all connected and all have phonebooks transferred easily and as soon as the car recognises them the phonebook is available.

The important bit is your phone needs to have the correct bluetooth profiles (bluetooth is just a common name and has many, many profiles) and I think the required profile is A2DP and RSAP (remote sim access profile), without them your phone won't work properly.

Forget the dealers, they know nothing about these and I've had to navigate my own way around the unit myself, I've posted THIS TOPIC and it may enlighten you to the deficiencies of the unit.

I wrote a letter to Toyota three months ago and got no response and I called them on Monday regarding updating the replacement sat nav unit and it transpires they're only now, after selling these for over a year developing the hardware/software to maintain/update the HDD unit.

A colleague who was clever enough not to upgrade to the HDD unit has had the exact same problems with the standard unit.

One thing you do need to do is 'crack' the unit to get into the settings and raise the microphone value from 0 - +5, I was constantly getting people complaining they couldn't hear me and

video shows you how to do it, BUT you have to hold down 'tel' button and switch the lights on and off quickly about five times for it to activate the 'secret' service menu, not by tapping the lines on the screen as the video suggests, didn't seem to work for me doing it that way

I also have the upgraded Sat Nav on my 2009 T4 and a Samsung D900i.

The Contact upload process works but needed a lot of fiddling with the phone once the bluetooth said it was waiting.

However there is another feature to challenge us. Every few weeks all the contacts disapear and have to be transmitted again.

This Toyota system is the worst SatNav I have played with. It is incapable of selecting a sensible route. It will offer 2 routes that add 20 minutes to a 1 hour journey using inane Motorway routes and a direct route using farm tracks - useless

On one route it ignores a perfectly good A road cross coutry but insists on diverting me from a Dual Carriageway Bypass through the town centre and back to the bypasws at the next roundabout. Adding 3 miles and a city centre!!!!!

I have played with tweaking the assumed speeds for Motorways rural roads etc, but to no avail.

The disappearing contacts which rogerbu refers to has just started happening to me. Premium system with Samsung mobile. Have you managed to resolve the issue please as would welcome a solution?

Toyota have a number of Software updates for the Premium HDD Sat Nav that solve many of the syncing and Contact list issues.

Ask your Toyota Dealer to discuss your problem with Toyota UK Service Support.

Totota sent a small patch that was installed and my Nokia N66 now works fine with the HDD satnav.

It would appear that many dealers are reluctant to go back to Toyota for a solution. Encourage them!!

Also, A reminder, Toyota now have the technology to upgade the Map data base on the HDD & other Satnavs. Complain hard enough, and you may be able to get updated to the 2010 maps.

I have the 2010 Avensis and i could not download the contacts into car with my nokia e63 or the nokia lunar but they did not have the required software or operating system in the phone (cannot rememeber what it was but did find it somewhere and my phones do not have the capability) have manually input the contacts and voice tags and it works really well never had a problem with using bluetooth or sound volume issues.

The HDD system i personally like and the satnav i find excellent, there is always issues with satnavs using routes that when we know the way we question, i also have a tomtom with latest maps and this does the strange route at times and tomtom only do satnavs.

i have the latest software in my HDD system so maybe it has the updates that have been talked about on here.

Mine is a late 2009 Avensis and my iPhone 4 hooked up with the car with no problems. music, phone, contacts etc all went in without a hitch.

Thanks for all the helpful comments. Have got problem sussed today. Somehow a setting has become altered on my mobile phone which was causing the issue. For anyone else with a Samsung mobile, it was in the bluetooth settings menu where there is an option to "authorise" the device. This works like a toggle switch and simply by "authorising" the device, now back on full synchronisation.

Incidentally, I do like the sat nav facility and the ability to input full post codes and gps coordinates is a great feature, particularly when you are reading typical "Walks for Motorists" books, which always tell you to park your car in a particular location which is not always clearly described in the text, but does have coordinates noted.

How to link my phone with Avensis 2009

What audio system does your car have, the standard CD/radio or the 'Nav' version? I had the standard system and was disappointed to discover the bluetooth only handle voice calls, and depending on the phone (I had a Nokia Windows phone), the phone satnav directions worked. The pairing process is very long winded. Have you got the owners manual and read the instructions? I also had a lot of music on USB memory sticks, so in the end I added a Bluetooth/USB adapter for my second phone, so I could have two bluetooth devices.

I upgraded my adapter to Wefa unit last year for better performance and voice control features with my Samsung

If you don't have the owners manual, let me know because Toyota only have manual from 2011.
