Oil Smoke From Exhaust

Hello I wonder if any one else has had the same problem I have just brought a 53 reg Gx d4d Rav4 when going along the motorway I suddenly noticed a lot of blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust (so much so somebody called the fire brigade). The car has been reguarly serviced cam belt has just been changed, it doesn't get through lots of oil all the pipes have been taken off and they seem to be doing what they should. There is no oil anywhere on the engine and it has run really quiet and smoke free since although I haven't gone along the motor way. Toyota say they have never heard of this before, and I just wondered if anyone had had the same problem??????????????? and if I should panic.

Thanks

Welcome to the club.

It seems funny that it did it intermittently. The only things I can think of are

There is too much oil in the sump and some made its way to the crankcase ventilation. Check on the dipstick and drain if necessary.

The PCV valve stuck and it drew excessive oil vapors from the crankcase. In this case the valve should be changed.

There are a couple of full time Toyota mechanics who may be able to add to this.

I have got a second hand but serviceable PCV valve. I will post it to you FOC if you want to try it. If so pm me with your address.

Have seen a few with turbo issues. The seals fail on them allowing oil into the intake. Might be worth looking into.

I considered this but he says it is now working perfectly. I haven't come across an intermittent problem with a turbo seal???

I had exactly this once on a cavalier.

Turned out when they did the service they "forgot" to empty the old oil before putting in the new!!

Was a company car thank God.

Assume you've checked the dipstick?
