Any sugguestions welcome

I have a problem and cant seem to get to the bottom of it, there is a slight humming noise when drive, but it sounds louder when you turn, it sounds like something is rubbing or there is a buldge in the tyre but theres not.

Just to mention a few things that have been done, all new anti roll bar links and bushins, changed a hub cause thought it was a bearin, got wheels balanced and when that made no difference swapped wheels with wheels on back in case it was the tyres. Boot rubbers and drives also seem ok. ???

New to this forum,

It doesnt seem to be affecting the way it drives. Any help is welcome as it is driving me mad to find out whats causing it in case it is the start of someting bigger!

Also someone has sugguested power steering, cant see it being that, what does anyone think!

Hello mate,

I have a similar problem with my D4D Avensis. I've had 4 garages look at it now and no one has solved the problem. I have had a squeal/scraping noise for months now. It was happening only when turning right (quarter turn and beyond) but now seems to happen when I am coasting towards a red light at low speeds.

I've had the brakes looked at several times, copper greased up to the eye balls, tyres checked, balanced and so far nothing has worked. The only thing I have noticed is that it seems to be a little off balance left side, so whether it is a shocker issue I don't know. I'd be surprised as I'd hope a garage would pick that up. My other theory is that maybe a brake is sticking, or handbrake sticking.

I'm probably going to bite the bullet and take it to Mr. T and pay for labour charges.

Be interested to hear if you have a remedy or sugestion as it could be with have similar issues.

Thanks for that, if I hear anything or solve it I will let ya know, I am nearly gone stupid with it. for the world it is like something simple is just rubbing off something else but it cant be found. Didn't get to many replies either so I mustn't be the only one puzzled! :)

Seen a few with wheel bearings gone noisey. Cheap tyres sometimes cause similar noises. Power steering fluid level? If its not correct it can cause noises. Does it change with speed?

Has it got a tow bar, or did it previously have one? Could be badly installed trailer socket wiring perhaps?

These Avensis MK 3 has common issue with break hubs/supports, usually that noises coming from them, very popular problem in my country with this car. Are u sure that you check rear breaks, unfortunately there is no solutions. Only one that I saw and it is functioning is with additional springs.
