Hi I have a 2005 XT5, I presume these come with VSC & TRC, both the VSC and the skidding car lights illuminate when the key is turned to the on position, but is there a button to turn them on & off, or is it all done automatically? I have searched high and low but cannot find the button, I also dont have the MPG and averaged speed trip computer, I must have half an XT5, am I missing something here? :help:

There is no VSC button. One of the others will guide you on using the trip computer.

Hi

I bought a 2005 Xt5 in 2005 expecting to have a av. speed, consumption etc. as described in all the brochures I had seen, but I soon discovered that this was not so. IMHO Toyota misled purchasers of this model by not stating that , because Sat Nav etc was included, the Av speed etc was not.

I think you may be right, Toyota have misled us, looking at the manual it looks like its intergrated with the radio, so I thought it would be located in the sat nav somewhere but cannot find anything, Do you think this could be retro fitted if I bought all the right parts etc, I also belive the consumption and av mpg was also intergrated into the clock, I`m sure I saw this on a 2003 VX but could be wrong?

As for the traction control again im sure ive seen a VSC button down near the idler up button again on a 2003 VX, in my manual it states this " Leave the system on during the ordinary driving so that it can operate when needed" thats word for word ;) so this to me implies that you can turn it off somehow, maybe its just for cars in japan? I just dont know. Unless I have to turn ignition to ACC then turn Off and open and close the side door 5 times while standing on one leg. :jawdrop:

Does it have full screen sat nav or is it fed through the standard head unit? If its a standard type head unit then there is a botton in the lower right corner of set with "trip/navi" on it. Press that and it should show you the relevant info.

Hi

It is a question of Toyota delivering what they advertise in their brochures!! No more , no less .

Hi

Thats a good and reasonable point. Like when I deconstructed my RAV steering wheel and found a mechanically operated air-bag that no-one seemed to realise had been fitted - all the forums said it was sensor operated and you had to disconnect the Battery whilst standing in a bucket of water, then leave the lights on for 3 hours. In actual fact, the only way the bag would have gone off was if ones torso hit the steering wheel with such force....or that the steerin g column hit yer chest with such force..... so the erroneous descriptions (hows that for not trying to write in Scots - impressed? ) by Toyota have been going on for 15 years as far as I found.

Mind you, even the Fiat punto has an average trip mpg and time, and even tells you how many miles are left in the tank - so the electronics needed must be pretty basic.

If you feel aggrieved (no, I don't know Aggrieved nor have I met her B) ) then a letter to trading standards with a copy of the brochure or manual is the way to go.

Its a bit like Haynes publishing a RAV4 manual for the UK market when in fact its just a re-print of the USA manual and has little mention of RAVs before 1996 - the year the USA got them....so everybody's at it!

I remember thinking at the time I had my 4.2 with the trip computer, that it was a scandal that the top of the

range model didn't have it. You can get this readout and more by fitting a scangauge like a member called Hoovie

has done. I believe it plugs into the OBD socket under the dash. Can't remember the cost, £100 maybe ?

Now theres a memory from the past - Hoovie!! Last known to be lying under the RAV fitting a cloud of LED lights...........

That hero needs pinned into this forum with the excellent info he's posted! I still scan thru his posts looking for the links! (grovel)
