Its an early Toyota term for sunroof.

It depends on the age as to which have them. I found this on the Toyota used car archive;

http://www.toyota.co.uk/vs2/oldpdf/04/RV3_93_over.pdf

In this year they all did!

This is my 2p`s worth, I always thought it was marketing talk for a bigger sunroof, so you start with the bog standared sunroof, then a slightly larger sunroof is a moon roof, and now I think it is renault that do a larger windscreen that stretches up over the roof line a little, it has a name like landscape roof of something like that. :)

Hi there and hope this helps.

When I had a 1989 Toyota Spacecruiser people carrier it had a vary large sun roof in the middle of the car about 3-4 times bigger than a sunroof. At the front of the car over the driver and front passenger was a sun roof. Ergo great big sunroof = moonroof.

Solved!

I fitted one of these to a 2A Land Rover many years ago. According to the literature at the time the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof was that the moonroof was fixed, i.e. it did not open. B)

So a sunroof that doesn't open is a moonroof and a moonroof that opens is a sun roof :rolleyes:

It's a bit like the old saying about Crows and Rooks - "A Crow in a crowd is a Rook and a Rook on it's own is a Crow' ..............or somesuch.

Dunno about it being just older models, the handbook for my 07 4.3. still calls it a moonroof.

I was always under the impression that a moonroof is made of glass - you can see through it (pull the shade back) when it is closed and the sunroof, when it is closed you can not see through it because it is made of metal.

It was called a moonroof on the LR cos it started as a sunroof in the morning and as you waited for the repair truck, it became a moonroof.......

I thought a sunroof retracted into its cassette and a moonroof just popped up at an angle??? But then again, I had a sunroof that could do both....

As I'm 6'4", I often used to end up lowering the seat to save sitting with my head at an angle, until I got the Rav4,of course!
