Starting Problem

Hi all, new to this forum

AA were called this morning after my Avensis failed to start (Current mileage 54000 and no other problems). I had driven to work approx 5 miles, had an appt and then returned to the car to return home. Total time the car was shut down was 40 mins. (started fine initially on leaving home)

symptoms:

car appeared to turn over fine but not start. On lifting the bonnet and trying to restart same happened but engine seemed to vibrate significantly. Tried for further 10 mins, locking, unlocking re-trying and still did not start.

AA guy turned up, plugged in a Battery boost and it started straight away.???????

He then did a Battery load test and it passed on all the criteria.

This he said meant there was no fault with the Battery.

This is the second time this has happened, luckily the first time I left it for ten minutes and it re started and this was after leaving it stand for 15 mins after a straight 60 mile journey.

Starting to get a little worried as it is intermittent and I cannot now rely on it.

Any Help or advice would be very much appreciated before I start spending hundreds of pounds on diagnostics.

Toby

Could be a few things. Maybe get a 2nd opinion on Battery. Could also be a fuel pressure fault. Had a few with the pressure valves failing causing non start. Maybe the start of them going wrong. Maybe get a diagnostic machine on to check for any stored faults.

hi TOBY

check with the following:

- glow plugs relay (carbon deposits resulting electricity lose);

- SCV (works or not depending on prime DC voltage);

- fine fuel filter last date changed;
