its there to prevent damage

also, if the car is not warm enough it will limit lower and not allow the use of lift.

no risk of damage but try not to make it a regular occurance, changing at around 8000rpm should give you plenty umph

IIRC the engine can rev to 9,200rpm but is limited to 8,200rpm

I've bounched off the limiter a few times, by accidently mostly if I'm spinning in the wet.

Can't say it seems to have done any damage over the few times it's happened.

As for the Cooper.. Result? :P

okay cool. no it was a one off moment of maddness during a quick encounter with a Cooper S where i was more focused on the road than shifting obviously!!

the car was warm, been switched on for about 15mins (inc motorway driving) and i was sat at 6krpm for about 10 secs before i punched it s the oil must have been flowing by that point. and well if it wasnt:/ damn

i have rev'd upto 4.4rpm :unsure::unsure::unsure:

4.4rpm????

That's really low.... the only time the CTS is near that figure is when it's switched off! :P

4.4 Eh.... Surely the car would stall at 4.4rpm? Mine stalls at anything under 600 Usually! :P

i did it in my clio alot, especially in 1st - used to catch me by surprise as it limited 500 rev's before the redline

The car was ( and probably still is) a bag of spanners. Don't know if that was renault build quality for you but my T- sport has never been Bounced during my ownership - but gimmie another week and im sure i will have!! ha

Hitting the limiter is fine provided the car has oil in it and you dont do it on every journey! Obviously if its poorly maintained then issues could arise.

Back when i was a bit more a racer than a plodder i used to hit the limiter in my 1.3 GS all the time, in the short term it never did anything to it because she loved it  ;)

So you would hit you limiter before we hit Lift?

I have hit the limiter many many times when trying to keep up with the lift from 1st to 2nd.

My car works fine, so no worries.

I installed a digital rpm meter with shift light. Shift light goes on at 8000rpm. Now i don't hit the limiter so often. :)

Try doing that in a CTS from 1st to 2nd with its dodgy clutch and tricky gearbox  ;)

Not managed to hit the limiter on mine yet. Seems i'm not trying hard enough :)

Never had a problem slamming into the limiter on the wifes Z3 Beemer though.
