Toyota Auris T-spirit 1.6 Vvt-i Automatic Headlights

Hi all,

I have a toyota auris T-Spirit 1.6 VVT-I. My "AUTO" headlights come on a lot when i start the engine because i work shift work and use the car very early in the morning and late at night.

I leave the lights in "AUTO" position in the day, but when at night i switch them to "OFF" and switch them on when the engine has started.

At night when it is dark and the lights are in AUTO position, the lights come on 1-2 seconds before the engine has started. This is worrying me as i think that over time this will deplete the Battery.

My question is is there anyway to delay them from coming on until the engine has started?

Will it deplete the Battery if i leave them in "AUTO" position all the time?

Any replies would be great.

Thanks

John.

You can leave headlamps on for a few hours and the Battery will still start the car, a couple of seconds won't make any difference. Just for information, I work nights so the lights get used everyday and I have left them on auto since I bought my Camry 3 1/2 years ago and the Battery is still fine.

I believe the only time it's advisable to turn lights on manually is when you have HID lights as starting the car with the lights on can dramatically shorten the life span of these bulbs.

First i've heard of that, my dad's LS400 is still on the originals after 11 years and 168k.

Don't know how true it is, it's just something I read in a magazine or instruction leaflet somewhere. If it isn't true i'll start using my auto light feature.
