Avensis Steering Rack

Hi, i have a 2000 2.0 VVTI estate, and at the weekend when i was driving, the steering suddenly started shaking really bad as if the wheels had suddenly lost all the balance, and when i braked, it nearly took the wheel out of my hands. I took it into my local garrage, and he found that the "U" shape bush that holds the rack down on the passenger side, had somehow let the rubber insert come out, which let the rack move all over. Does any one know if this is a known fault with the avensis, or would it be just a worn bush. He took the bracket off, and put the rubber back in, and said he couldn't feel any play on it. Any replies would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

I have seen this happen before but it is not common, buy a new bush anyway!

hi, thanks for the reply, i've got one on order, maybe when it comes i will be able to compare it with the old one, and see if there is any difference
