Tailgate Chrome Trim

I've had my Verso T Spirit 4 years from new now and I've noticed that the 'chrome' trim which runs along the bottom of the tailgate is starting to blister.

I was going to replace it until I discovered the price which is about £90, plus VAT as well probably. These trims are not covered bt the 12 year corrosion warranty.

Does anyone know how this is fitted to the bodywork. It appears to be stuck on with a rubberised sticky tape but I'm not completely sure. If it is I was thinking of just removing it and cleaning the paintwork which should hopefully just involve removing the sticky residue.

Can anyone confirm this.

Looking at the Accessory Installation manual (AIM) on the Toyota technical website confirms that it is stuck on with double sided tape - hopefully it can be removed without leaving any damage.
