Air Con Removal

Ok im going to get the air con pump removal kit from fensport and apart from the pump i want to know what components and piping i can remove from the car like the air con radiator and chiller unit i think it is behind the glove box is it? I would just like a guide to the things to remove and their location.

Just been thinking and would it be possible to take the air con fan and put a new fan in to blow onto the engine? I realise i would have to take a tap off of the signal that tells the fan to come on when hot. Just would like some opinions or do you have to keep the air con fan.

cheers

Mike

basically everything air con related can come out, the chiller unit is behind the glove box but it's not a 5 minute job lol you just need to keep one sensor or else your fan's will run constantly.

if your replacing the fan you want another pull fan as the push fans actually restrict air flow when not in use and can only go so fast so even when in use can be causing some restriction.

here's a pic of when i removed my chiller unit during replacing my heater matrix:

Yeh done a bit more research on it, just need to check which bit of wiring is the amplifier for the system so i can take that out. I was thinking of turning the fan around in its housing but i am not 100% if you can get inside the housing. If not im sure i can get another blowing fan and drill some holes as i dont think the attachments are in the same position as the other one. Bit annoying that the air con rad is under that top front cross member might be worth doing the fmic at the same time, just finding the time at the moment.

You know when you take the chiller unit out do you need to blank off any pipes/heater ducting?

you could blank the space with some gaffer tape, i never bothered and the ducts still got a good flow out of them

ok right taken the pump out for now, i have to say it has probably been the easiest job ive ever done on this car ha. Snipped a bonding wire by mistake cause i thought it was the only way to get it out but i have soldered it back together and stuck some green line around it so its fine now. Haven't got any circlip pliers to take the bearing out of the idler pulley so i will take it out tomorrow at work and i need a vice to get the pulley off the alternator to stick the new light weight pulley on. Looked at the rest of it and doesnt seem like a bad job, just waiting till i go back to my parents house to do the rest as i have many more tools there plus im putting a fmic at the same time. The sensors in the pipe work (black cylindrical) i noticed one just before the pipes went through the bulk head, what happens with them? Disconnect? or something else?

Ok having trouble with the white box around the chiller unit, can you get away with the bottom half just coming out or does all of it need to be pulled. I have disconnected the 2 pipes from the back of the aluminium cylinder in the engine bay just before it goes thru the bulkhead as i am guessing it pulls thru when you take the chiller unit out. As you will see on picture 2 the pipe seems to be holding the bottom half on and im having trouble getting it off, seems to be a pipe going to atmosphere into the engine bay. Picture 3 is some bolts i cannot get, i need to go buy a wobbly tomorrow for my ratchet handle even though im not sure they are holding the top portion of the chiller box in place. Any tips to getting it out, pictures or anything would be great.

The air con fan is pull aswell it seems but i think i might take it out anyway as it does take up a lot of space and just put a small fan in there. Might save doing that for a few months.

Oh its nothing on the car, got an oil cooler kit and bought a sandwich plate with built in thermostat seperate from the kit but the fittings from the oil cooler kit were a strange size and wouldnt fit my new sandwich plate. However i found a place in grantham called pearsons hydraulic parts and they sorted me out with 2 new fittings with oil seals for 2 quid! That was the problem but i have sorted it now, glad i found that place though it has all sorts of stuff in there will definitely be using it again. Just need to find a few days to put my fmic on and the oil cooler kit plus rip out the rest of the air con system.
