Advise On Buying And Avensus

Hello,

I have just registered and after a little advise

I have been offered a 1998 Avensis GS TD for 750 pounds with 12 months mot and 6 months tax, the only thing that is putting me off is the fact it has done 196k miles already and recently had an engine rebuild. I thought an engine rebuild usually means every thing else will fall apart soon after? Also is 196k to many miles for this car or will it keep going for a lot longer?

What should I look for around a 2nd hand Avensis? are there any common problem areas?

I know that any advise is that only and at the end of the day if I buy it and it brakes its 100% my responsibility so any advise is welcome.

Thanks

Sav

before deal is completed - you'd ask for the parts list that have been used to rebuid this diesel engine.

besides -- what woks list, as well. whether cthe crankshaft pins have been grinded for the 1st overside dias.

do not pay any money unless you 100000% awared with the above.

I will ask to take a look through the receipts and see what i can see, is there any abreaveations of this that are normaly printed on the recipt? The car is being sold by a dealer so i will be lucky if he knows.

So i guess i should walk away if i cant find out and not take a chance.

Thanks for the help

The rebuild status means -- all cunsumable parts have been changed on new ones; Besides -- they have to have dimentions reports for cyl liners; pistons; main/crank pins. In case the above have been out of limits they had to bored cyl liners and crankshaft pins for the 1st oversize. It's understood th erespective 1st oversiized shells/pistons had to be installed etc. That is why in case you are interested in this car - you have to have all these records to adopt your final decision. Otherwise the headache will wait for you after payment.

Cheers/Igor
