Hey there!

I would like to check somethin : if i had to widen my aygo platinum tyres to 185 will there be any chance of damaging the power steering motor given the extra stress??

Ok, I assume you picked an alloy and tyre package that doesn't rub the arches or hinder the turning circle.

Don't worry, you won't be able to break the power steering. It is speed sensitive and powered by an electric motor. There are no hydraulic lines or seals to break if you overstress it. It is clever enough to limit the maximum torque applied to the steering column, act as a steering damper on uneven surfaces and turns itself off if it detects that your Battery is low. Because the level of power assistance remains the same, your arms will have joy of being overstressed, but that's only at parking speeds

Ok then...another thing. I read in this forum that i can leave my standard platinum 8 spoke alloys & fix 185 tires on them....can that possibly be true?

No. I haven't seen any 185 tyres you can safely mount on a 4.5in rim.

The recommended J size for a 185/55x14 (which is the size I assume you are talking about) is between 5J and 6.5J.

I suggest the max is 165 on 4.5j alloys.
