right guys, ive managed to get my hands on a V8 engine and i was hoping that someone maybe had some ideas about converting it into a mid (well rear) engined v8 monster. knowing that the cars so small im thinking the engine ive gots a bit too big (chevvy ls7) so was wondering if anyone knew where i could get a second small block v8, sa a chevy? but thought id post up to get some perspective on things. naturally id be looking at getting a custom rear subframe and engine bay fabricated but im a little lost as to driveshafts, gearbox's and the like.... I also need to fit it by the weekend so I can race at the pod any help?

Thanks in advance :D

Thanks Asha, I will :D

ric - theres a guy that I know who collects american classics. he bought the ls7 with a view to putting it into a chevy nova but decided not to go that route. he offered me the engine at silly discount prices and went for it on the provision I could find out the info I needed to get the thing installed. And if ya have any time in the next two days am free :D

omg steve! i cant believe that you think this is all flying pigs! i know it does sound far fetched but its the reason why im still up at half 1 in the morning, im just so excited!!! ive never really thought about doing anything as way out as this but id really like to give it a go and hopefully make something special as i said ive come into ownership of an ls7 but after talking to a guy i know in the states its gonna be way too big. he said he has a small block chevy summit or other he could swap with me but someone said not to as the ls7 is worth loads more? can anyone tell me what i should do as i want an engine that fits and dont really know much beyond the fact its going to take lots of work and lots of fuel!!!

Have you got a gearbox and clutch too ?

You'll need new suspension of course as well.

And a junior hacksaw, or else you will never be finished by April 1st ;)

The Aygo Crazy did a cut and paste using the MRS 1.8vvti engine and gearbox.

If you're starting out with a V8, the easiest thing to do it mid-engine RWD. i.e. use the V8's orginal transmission and fabricate a shortened prop shaft.

You need a big budget if you want to meet your time frame.

i have a shoe horn you can borrow

If there's a transaxle that fits your V8 You'd have a lot less trouble fitting it,

but I doubt if the engine won't hit you in the back while driving...

Maybe you could mount it in reverse, put a diff in between the front wheels

(upside down to get the right direction) and make it a rear engined FWD car :D

Jan/Adilmon - you are talking as if I could actually do this

*goes and buys a V8 of ebay*

Steve = the shoe horn will weigh the car down, four leaf clover instead please

Well I have emptied the car of everything it doesnt need, off to wash it, ya never know I might win

With enough time / money everything is possible...

In the early eighties a Dutchman managed to get a V8 from a Chevrolet

ambulance into a Honda Civic without having it protruding form the hood...

One of these Civics:
