Rav 4 Spotlights/headlamps

Hi I have a 99 Rav 4 Soft-top and want to add additional driving lights, can anyone tell me the best place to install them as I dont want to end up drilling holes all over the plastic bumper for them to then fall off, lol

In addition has anyone here installed them themselves? I thinking of maybe doing the wiring myself but dont even know where to start, any suggestions? Should I pay out and get someone else to do it?

Also I know that you tend to get a switch included in some wiring kits for them, is it better to use a switch or link it so that they work with the normal headlight stick?

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jay :)

Jay,

I have just installed extra lights on my RAV 4 (WB, 2002) for night driving. According to the EEC rules (Europe) extra lights can only be used in conjunction with the high beam and not with normal driving (low) beam. Now a days one can buy a ramp with three to five extra lights (Do search "ljusramp"). The ramp has a metal plate that attaches behind the front number plate, avoiding drilling etc. The lights are connected via a relay system, as I have described in the RAV4 forum below.

Just connected auxillary lights via relay to the high beam and it works very well. All I did was to connect points 30 and 87 on the relay to the positive pole of the Battery and the positive pole of the auxillary lights respectively. AND the points 85 and 86 on the relay are connected (T-connection) to the two wires going in to one of the RAV's own head lamp (wires going to the extreme left and extreme right pins on the H4 lamp, not the centre pin wire). Then I connected the negative pole of the auxillary light to an earth (ground, any metal part of the body). The light comes on in conjunction with the high beam only as desired. There is no need for extra switch. If this is the type of connection you want feel free to contact me in case of questions. Rajiv

Sorry for the late reply Jay,

Try Google search with ljusramp ex3000. It will take you to the Swedish web site with the product and even description on how to connect it to each specific vehicle.

Good luck,

Rajiv
