I have a problem with the power loss.

The car is a 53 reg with 103k.

When moving off it's very slow to accelerate until the turbo kicks in at about 2250rpm as well as puff of smoke out the exhaust.Even if i floor the pedel it's still slow.

It doesn't happen all the time but it's getting worse.

Any help would be appreciated !!

- cam belt ---- have you changed it on 60k?

- fine fuel filter --- what is condition?

- what is smoke colour?

- when all injectors were last tested?

Igor,

Why would the cambelt affect the acceleration?

cambelt was changed at 60k and then i'll change at 120k (17k still to do)

i didn't know it had fine fuel filter but i have had it serviced recently by local garage.

i don't know the condition of injectors

smoke color is grey/black

I think i remember someone having similar problems on the forum before but can't find the posts.

I think they wrote something about EGR valves problems with the fuel supply.

i'm going abroad for 5 weeks treatment for a bad back so i just wanted some pointers/advice before i go so i can

give the garage a head start when i give it to them before i go.

The car starts fine and the power loss is the only problem at the moment

any vissible vibration available - when the engine is opened?

Not really any extra vibrations.

I managed to find some old posts and they all seem to point to EGR valves.

I think i'll change them anyway to eliminate that.

Have you any recommendations as to buying the valves ie genuine toyota or copys and maybe the cheapest place to buy?

Thanks for your help Igor !!!

I've rang local toyota dealer and they quoted £230 ish + vat for the valve.

I don't really want to spend that sort of money if poss so wondering if it could be cleaned or just replace

please try to PM to PARTS KING on here with regards to spares.

as these parts are important - i'd purchase then as originals -- besides Part King give a discount for TOC owners.

Just buzz him :)

i hope you're close to finalise.

do not forget to test all injectors -- the lose of power is a signal of poor injection.

cheers/Igor

I had a similar problem. Car starts with no problem, drive it a short without a problem then when pulling off for a stationary position there is no power and then all of a sudden the turbo kicks in and you have lift off. You get a BIG cloud of black smoke.

Took it to Mr T who "decoked" the exhaust manifold, cleaned the egr valve and one other thing that I can not remember. Apparently the soot of the diesel build was falling out of the manifold when they stripped it. The remember has been sorted. I was told to drive the car hard. When joining the motorway be in 3rd and accelerate hard to give the car a "Good" clean. Anyway since the work was done I have not had the above symptoms. Total cost £ 284 and had the car for 3days.

I have also added some Forte Diesel Treatment.

Hope that helps.

My car has just had a new alternator put on and since getting it back its really sluggish until turbo kicks in, are these related at all or just a bad coincidence
