Just had the airbag light start flashing on a 55 plate Aygo Sport (annoying thing is the warranty just ran out in February)

Anyway from previous experiences with my Saxo the airbag light was a common problem caused by the wires under the front seats.

Just wondering if any has had this and found any solutions

Thanks Matty.

My airbag warning light started flashing yesterday, fortunately(?) not yet 2years old. Off to Mr T again tomorrow pm.

alright then.. if you can try and ask the cause of it and ask if its cos of the wires underneath i just don't want it to be a fault in the ECU.

I've had the light flash on me too, so went to the dealer and they did a diagnostic on it.

Mine was PROBABLY caused by a glitch in the passenger bag key switch, at least that's

what the codes came back as.

Strange, as I've only tried this switch once; when I got the car... Later I deduced it back to

me starting the car and taking off immediately, off of the kerb I was parked on. This probably

caused the diagnosis that was still running to fail due to the severe shaking at that time...

Advised: the codes that showed up were'old codes' probably from when my carpets were replaced due to the water ingress! They have cleared the codes and not done anything else. Light has stopped flashing. Sorry not much info.....due for a service in 2 weeks so will update if anything further.

Only concern would be that if my sensor hasn't worked since they changed the carpets which was about a year ago why has it taken so long to alert me? Also got an amber on front tyres only done 8000miles would question that as my previous Fiesta sold at 10year old with the original tyres and 55000 miles!!

Hey guys, I have a 56 Aygo so it is out of warranty now. This morning this light starting flashing at me. Is there anything I can do myself to see if it resolves the problem? It is about £50 just for Toyota to look at it without fixing it, and being a student means £50 is a lot of money to me haha. Any Ideas?

Thanks

This happened to me a few days before Christmas Eve. It said in the owner's manual to contact a Toyota centre, which is what I did. The car was booked in the next day and they did a diagnostic check, revealing that it was a fault in the ECU causing the light to flash (and therefore airbags not functioning!). Booked the car in for replacement ECU - due to be done last Wednesday but due to weather conditions they weren't able to get the part there in time. I'm awaiting a phone call from them when the part arrives - hopefully this will be the cure. But it looks like it could be a new ECU for you. Mine's also a 56 Aygo Black but it came with a 12 month Toyota Used Car warranty (has about 11 months left) so I'm not sure what this actually costs to someone without a warranty like yourself. I'm guessing your airbag light is flashing at you as you're driving it? Hope you manage to get it fixed (and you do get used to the flashing light!!). Good luck.

Disconnect the Battery for half an hour, that MIGHT clear the fault.

The Airbag ECU is between £350 and £400 if I remember correctly...

So I went to Toyota today and had to pay £40 for the diagnostic check. Have to return again to pay £240 for new ECU for the airbag or something like that.

So should all be sorted soon.

Yep, that's what I had to do. I got the call to say my ECU has arrived (yesterday) but just waiting for the weather to improve as the dealer is a 30 minute drive away. It's such a shame that yours has run out of warranty. I'm thankful for mine, but know that next year I won't be so lucky if something like this goes wrong. Fingers crossed it won't! Hope the new ECU sorts yours anyway.

I am in the middle of exams at the moment, so am waiting until the 22nd to sort it out. I know the warranty was so annoying. I had considered changing the car when out of warranty but thinking that I had never had any problems with it and that I love the car I decided to stick with it.

Maybe another Aygo may be the solution :D

Took the Aygo in today to have its new bit for the ECU and airbag light has stopped flashing HOORAY. I'm now trying to get used to the absence of the flashing light in the speedo!! Only took 25 minutes for them to do and they were really efficient, and the car's fixed, so I'm very pleased. Hope you get yours sorted soon :)

Did this solution work for anyone? Mine started flashing today

I didn't try that as I booked it into Toyota (shortly after Christmas) and my car is under a 1-year Toyota used car warranty. They did a check, and booked it in afterwards for the new part. So luckily, I didn't have to pay, but I had to have the new part for the ECU which is to do with the airbag light. But Toyota sorted it and it hasn't flashed since. They were extremely efficient, took about half an hour, top customer service. I know the part is obviously quite expensive if you're not covered under warranty, but I'd say it's worth at least calling your local Toyota centre and see what's what. Hope you get it sorted, it was initially very annoying (the flashing light) and knowing you've got no working airbags is a bit disconcerting, but you get used to the light! I'd book it in for a check just to be sure what's what.

As far as i remember there is a modified ecu for Aygo but ......... Note the multi-plugs under the seats are notorious for coming apart slightly and triggering the light, I have heard of some dealers getting special dispensation from TGB to remove the plug and solder the cables together. First thing i would try with the ignition in the off position is just push both ends of the multi-plug together to try achieve a better connection, Could be a damn sight cheaper than a new ECU.

On another note - TGB are quiet keen to keep people happy at the moment given the recent bad press, If youve got a full dealer history then why not ask your dealer to approach TGB for some goodwill or ring customer relations youself who knows what they might say

Thanks - I could try that even though I can't help feeling I will get a short two letter answer
